Everything I ordered was SO good. ✨

The Kaldereta tasted like home. It is rich, comforting, and beautifully plated. The pandan mocktail was refreshing and perfectly balanced, and I even ordered another one because it was that good. I just couldn’t help it. The pandan ice cream was honestly chef’s kiss. And of course, you can never go wrong with rice.
But more than the food, it was the people and the atmosphere that made it special.

I’ll definitely be bringing my family here when they visit. It truly felt like a little piece of home here in Portland.

You can feel it. You can sense the love immediately. The owner, the chefs, and the staff have a lot of respect and passion for what they do. Every dish is served with their excitement to share their delicious creations with you. The moment you take a bite or sip one of their unique cocktails it affirms everything that you had hoped the experience would be. The flavors are rich and balanced, the textures are executed with precision, each bite reminds you that there is so much more in this world that you haven’t tried yet and it awakens a sense of wonder, adventure, and ambition.

So, yeah. It’s safe to say that I enjoyed it and I’m very much looking forward to going back.

Went with higher expectations with a recommendation by a friend during our trip to Portland. By the time we went, the restaurant had updated their menu. The tofu appetizer was amazing, and the escabeche was very nice. However, the most popular menu of the restaurant– crab fat pasta– was too salty for our taste.

It seemed like the servers were less attentive and caring, with workers acknowledging 20% gratuity and a large group being in there. We aren’t so sure that if we love this place, but we would love to give them another shot if time allows.

A fun and intimate Filipino restaurant with an open kitchen. The staff was friendly and helpful and the Crab Fat Noodles were outstanding. A nice combination of flavors from sour to sweet and not overly salty at all. The noodles were cooked perfectly and had a nice texture and flavor and the broth was delicious with shreds and chunks of crab throughout.

The food was decent. I’ve definitely had better home cooked Filipino cuisine, even cooking on my own. We got the duck breast, seafood kare kare, and crab fat noodles. The drinks were definitely better. We got the non alcoholic sodas – orange cream, tamarind, and calamansi. I don’t like sweets but I enjoyed the halo halo. The flan bites were the best. The ice cream separately had good flavor but wasn’t creamy enough, a bit more on the ice side.

The service was sub par. Our waitress kept forgetting about us, and it wasn’t even that busy on the inside. We kept having to remind her for boxes, water, and even our check. She almost let us walk out without giving us our check. If we didn’t ask, we wouldn’t have gotten. I did not feel like the included 20% tip was warranted here. And to be honest, can’t help but wonder if that’s why she was comfortable forgetting about us – she’d get paid either way. We stayed an hour longer than we needed to just because we were forgotten and waiting.

It was my birthday, too – and they don’t do anything for birthdays. Expensive for what it is. Overall, glad I tried, but I don’t see the hype and I’ll stick to my kitchen.

I tried Magna Kusina in Portland and the food was genuinely good. Highlights were the squid ink fat noodles with crab—savory, briny, and nicely al dente—and several other dishes that were well-seasoned and thoughtfully presented. Service was friendly and the ambiance was warm.

However, I was really disappointed to find a mandatory 20% “service fee” added at checkout without clear upfront disclosure. It wasn’t mentioned by staff and I only saw it when paying. Regardless of how restaurants structure wages or tips, this feels misleading. Please make this charge obvious on the menu and before ordering so guests can decide with full information.

Featured in comedian James Acaster’s dream menu on the “Off Menu” podcast a couple of years ago, we had to eventually try this place. We had a covered table outside and ordered a selection of dishes. The grasshopper shots to start the meal were surprisingly good and every dish that followed was unique, tasty and perfect for sharing. The covered area outside was cozy, warm and perfect for a group. My favorite dish – sisig, but all were good.

My friends and I love Magna. Chef Carlo and his team make sure you have an amazing experience. Not only are the food and drinks terrific, but the atmosphere is chill and friendly. It’s a great place to hang out with friends and family.

The food is easy to order for sharing so you can try multiple dishes, which I totally suggest. You can’t go wrong ordering anything, but some suggestions…
* The lumpia and chicharon with shishitos covered in salted egg dust. These make a great starter while trying to narrow down what else to order.
* One of my favorite combos – the Sisig (crispy pork bits, onions, chili topped with runny egg) and the garlic rice. It’s also great with the Pancit Bihon.
* If you’re into crab definitely get the Mom’s Crab Fat Noodles – Dungeness crab + corn-pepper chow chow over squid ink noodles made in house. Go for it by adding the fried soft shell crab.

Warning, Honest review. Saturday night no chef no leadership. I’m Served raw pork. They then give me charred pork. They seem to just not care. Flavors are meh. Chef is checked out.

This was really good but mostly just very rich food. I had really high expectations and thought it would be more flavorful rather than just rich. But overall, really great experience!
