PHENOMENAL Michigan Avenue restaurant.
On an extremely chilly, 8-degree Chicago winter day, The Gage was the perfect place for my college friends and I to escape to in the cold to enjoy warm, gourmét comfort food. Every dish we tried was outstanding. The Coconut Curry was deeply flavorful and comforting, with a rich, aromatic broth that felt tailor-made for winter. The Coq Au Vin seemed beautifully tender and hearty, with layers of savory flavor that tasted slow-cooked to perfection. Their Chips and Curry were far more elevated than expected—crispy, satisfying, and paired with a bold, well-seasoned curry sauce. The Agnolotti was equally impressive: delicate pasta, perfectly cooked, and filled with balanced, indulgent flavors such as the mushrooms. Expect to pay more—around $40–$70 per person for a standard meal, and higher if you opt for novelty or signature items like their steak—but the quality absolutely matches the price. The atmosphere during dinner was dimly lit, warm, and inviting, and the staff were kind, attentive, and efficient throughout our visit. You’ll likely be dining alongside large business groups whether you come solo, as a pair, or with family, but they were not at all bothersome to our experience at least during dinner. Overall, an exceptional dining spot that delivers great food, atmosphere, and service. A truly FANTASTIC Michigan Avenue restaurant.

This was a good dinner. I had an incredible glass of wine off a reasonably priced wine by the glass list full of actually interesting wine not your typical by the glass offerings.

One of the best bread appetizers i’ve had recently. Irish soda bread leaning. Coq au vin for the entree was decent and good rich flavor. It did not take itself too seriously just good classic cooking. Only takeaway was the pearl onions were not cooked through and the whole dish was a bit toward room temp like it had sat for a minute before coming out.

service was decent. Our waiter was not as attentive throughout the meal, having to flag hm down after several minutes to order entree and get the check for instance. We weren’t too mad as we had good wine and appetizers! He was very helpful in selecting a sample of armagnac to try- a 1oz pour if a very nice bottle for only 5 dollars!

Overall recommend for the vibes. the restaurant is beautiful and the fixtures are incredible

This was an excellent experience. I was seated promptly at a nice quiet table near the back. They didn’t mind I needed time to get my coat off and settled. I had the Buffalo Check, it was a really nice spirit forward drink. The special was a halibut with a beurre blanc caper sauce, broccoli and potato pave. It was amazing, I cleaned the plate! Glass of white wine paired very well. For dessert I tried the sticky coffee pudding. Sauce was perfect. Carmel ice cream amazing. The pudding was a tiny bit too dry. The cream sherry pairing was perfect. I will certainly come here again.

We ate outside in the covered area near the street. End of January and plenty of snow on the ground. Still warm while eating and drinking 🙂

The food was good, not great. Seemed like elevated pub fare for some of the plates

Drinks were made well and the wine was delicious with plenty of options.

Definitely will be back to try different food options

We went for Restaurant Week late lunch. The food was very good while service was great. We had a nice booth and found it very conversational friendly. Next time we will explore more of menu and try bar seating as well as Happy Hour.

This is a really great restaurant located right in the heart of Chicago. One of the things I appreciate most is the menu – it’s limited in size, which makes it easy to choose without feeling overwhelmed, yet every dish offered feels carefully curated and unique. Even though the menu isn’t huge, the selections are creative and interesting, with plenty of options that stand out from the typical fare you find elsewhere.

The food itself is excellent – every dish is packed with flavor and clearly made with attention to detail. You can tell the chefs put thought into balancing the ingredients, and it makes for a memorable dining experience.

The service is another highlight. The staff is attentive and quick, so you never feel like you’re waiting too long. There’s also plenty of seating, which makes it comfortable whether you’re visiting for a casual meal or with a group of friends.

The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting – laid-back enough to enjoy a slow meal, but still stylish and modern. It’s the kind of place where you can sit back, unwind, and enjoy good food without any rush.

Overall, this restaurant is absolutely worth a visit if you’re in Chicago. It combines great food, fast service, and a welcoming vibe, making it a spot you’ll want to come back to.

Everything we ate here with our party of 5 was delicious. The service was great, the ambiance was classy and nicely lit with large booths or even bigger tables for larger parties. I ordered the Irish Breakfast for late brunch and it was so good, instantly transporting you back to Ireland with the 2 eggs , black pudding, baked beans, breakfast sausage, brown bread and rashers! Can’t wait to come back here.

The food was excellent and the service was welcoming and great! My boyfriend and I went for a dinner date and our favorites were the house country bread w/ brie and fig jam, prime filet mignon, and poutine! After that, I devoured the apple galette with caramel ice cream (an absolute must try)! I’m already looking forward to trying the burrata toast and scallops on my next visit. Thank you, Billy and the entire staff, for an incredible experience!

Walked in and was seated immediately with no wait in the outdoor area. Very nice vibe throughout the restaurant. We ordered a couple appetizers including the heirloom tomato and burrata toast and truffle fries (both of which were outstanding). Main courses included coconut curry, Amish chicken roulade and (on the specials) pork shank. Portions were great and the food was deliciously prepared. Service was good, but nothing exceptional. Server was attentive but not overly friendly. I would definitely go back, but would probably sit inside partly due to the occasional pathetic drivers on Michigan Ave who think they’re in a Too Fast Too Furious sequel. It was extremely loud at times, but no blame to the restaurant for this – just be aware if you sit outside.
