The thai green elephant is a small restaurant. Perfect for a good conversation and solid meal without having to be dressing fancy. It’s not the best decor and it doesn’t need to be. The quantity and quality of the food is excellent for the price. We tried the house fried rice, the duck red curry, papaya salad and the pad Thai. Everything was yummy. If your have allergies the menu indicate what each dish contains. Example P for peanuts etc.
The lunch special is the must because you get salad, soup or spring rolls, main dish and drink within $18!
It’s my most favourite restaurant in Esquimalt
I’ve lived near here for much of my life, so I’ve eaten here many times, and the food has always been tasty. Standout dishes include the pork ribs, tamarind duck, drunken noodles, tom ka gai, and truly every curry on the menu, especially the massaman, which is a favourite.
One thing to note: there’s a flight of stairs to enter, so it may not be fully accessible. Otherwise, this is a reliable, much-loved spot that I keep coming back to.
Green Elephant in Victoria is an absolute gem that every Thai food lover must experience. From the moment you step inside, you know you’re in for a treat. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, but the real star of the show is the food. Each dish we ordered was simply delicious, bursting with fresh and vibrant flavors that were incredibly authentic.
Eating here felt like I was back in Thailand, enjoying the rich and complex spices that are so characteristic of Thai cuisine. The kitchen does an exceptional job of balancing sweet, sour, spicy, and savory notes perfectly. The curries are rich and fragrant, the noodle dishes are perfectly prepared, and everything is served with a passion that you can truly taste.
The service was also top-notch—the staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. It’s rare to find a place that can so successfully capture the true essence of another country’s food, but Green Elephant nails it. For anyone craving genuine Thai flavors and a fantastic dining experience, this restaurant is a must-visit. It’s easily one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve ever been to, and I can’t wait to go back.
The restaurant stops taking orders just 30 minutes before closing and rushes diners out even while they are still eating.
My friends and I visited on a Friday evening with a reservation, expecting a relaxed meal.
Our order was taken just before 8:00 pm, food arrived around 8:15, and we were then expected to finish within the next 15 minutes.
We were even offered takeaway boxes for dessert so we wouldn’t “overstay.” To make matters worse, we were asked to pay the bill while still in the middle of eating-before the restaurant had officially closed.
The justification given was that staff do not get paid overtime, which felt inappropriate to place on paying customers. If the closing policies are this strict, diners should be clearly informed in advance or simply not seated so close to closing time.
I would much rather be turned away than rushed out mid-meal. Unfortunately, this was not a peaceful or enjoyable dining experience, and I won’t be returning.
Thank you for proving such a good product and service, you made our Christmas party 10/10!
