Small walk-in sandwich shop that serves up big tastes! Their cheese steaks are excellent! While some places rely on their choice of bread to carry their cheese steaks, Jim’s West puts it all out there with their meat. The juicy, delicious flavor of every bite reminds you who’s the star. They also make a homemade banana pudding that you have to come back for! Don’t be put off if you see thru the door a lot of ppl squeezed inside waiting. Beside the kitchen area, there’s little room but to order and move along with the line to pickup and pay. The employees are really fun and eager to serve, and work hard to keep things going and deliver good food. I’d definitely would return.

I let the public hype die way down before I visited. I scratched the childhood memories out. I arrived with my son a clean slate ready for inscription. My son ordered a cheese steak with American, mayo and fried onions. I got one with mayo, mushrooms, provolone and lots of hot pepper seeds. Shout out to the gentleman who was so polite as I smiled and kept shaking my head as each gentle shake wasn’t enough. I wanted it covered and so it was. My son and I both ate our entire sandwiches at home. My only and review skewing complaint was the meat ample and of a great quality. The roll was soft and fresh. It just wasn’t flavorful or juicy. Even with the S.P and hot pepper flakes. Flavor profiles do matter. I will try Jim’s again.

I was on a mission for a chicken cheesesteak and started searching around for lunch spots. The moment I landed on Jim’s, I already knew it was over—I had to go. The staff was super polite and respectful, and they even apologized for the wait (which honestly wasn’t bad at all).
Let me tell you… I barely made it back to my work van before ripping into that chicken cheesesteak. The smell alone almost took me out—and the first bite? Absolute . Juicy, packed with flavor, and straight-up satisfying.
And yes, I grabbed the banana pudding too… and yeah, it was just as good as you’d hope.
If you’re anywhere near this place, do yourself a favor and stop by. You have to get a cheesesteak from here. No debate. No regrets.

Old school classic style cheese steaks made to order to your specifications right in front of you. Fresh halal beef, soft fresh bread, quality ingredients, friendly and outgoing service. No frills, take out, low key, quick moving line. Delicious results and open late.

For those who complained about service, respect is a two way treat. Act snappy here and you’re likely to be snapped back at. Makes sense to me. Their staff is too genuine and considerate for me to imagine any of the members being rude without cause.

Solid place, perfect cheesesteak for me, but I also know how to order. Don’t complain about lack of seasoning if you didn’t ask for salt and pepper! Very important step!

I used to go to gym steaks. We talk about back in like 1984 and it was a really good late night cheesesteak place you couldn’t replace it but now that the new owners have it is just not the same. The food quality is not the same despite what they say the steak has gristle in it I bought a cheesesteak. It was half burnt meat, half uncooked meat. It was terrible. I would not recommend this place. Unless you get there early. It’s just not what it used to be.

The cheesteak was exceptional and the service was top tier everyone was friendly. The cheesteaks were made fresh as you ordered. I will definitely be back here next time I’m in Philly. Avoid south street and come to the original location

I must say this place needs more attention and needs to be known as the staple of Philadelphia for the best cheesesteaks over all cheesesteak places.
One of the best cheesesteaks I had. I got the chicken cheesesteak with cooer sharp cheese fried onions, sweet peppers, salt pepper ketchup a line of yellow mustard and pickles. First I want to say that they toast their bread and cheese in a boiler. They a special sauce on the meat. Like some type of butter garlic and parsley blend infused with olive oil. I am assuming. lol. But the sauce is a staple for the flavor. The service is good. I truly would patronize them again. Can’t go wrong. At all.

I’ve ordered hoagies and cheesesteak from this establishment and I have been pleased. Both options are amazing. My first time going I had to loop back to tip and tell them that it was so good. The bread was so fresh and chewy. The meat was meat, plentiful. The prices, unbeatable and on top of all of that, amazing service and vibes. S/O to the frontline staff for being so friendly and bubbly and giving me a history lesson about the establishment.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Jim’s West to others and I look forward to my next visit, today!

Apparently if you go an hr before closing, they barely acknowledge you when you walk in. The cooks talk to each other and tell you they understand your order in the middle of their important conversation.

I said to the cook extra fried onions , and raw onions and the grilled peppers I see in all the pictures.

Well I got ton of raw onions , and a sprinkle of cold sweet peppers from the hoagie station. Not a fried onion in sight.

I drove from Germantown , used to live in West Philly as a kid.

She wrapped up my sandwich so quick I didn’t catch my steak was wrong.

I’m not sure why the standard changes but it’s not like the photos I see here .

If I don’t get a response here , I’ll return and speak to the manager . Cause I’m confused by this BS. Scroll down and my steak looks like it came from a different establishment.
