Social Profile:

Stone Hill’s original carriage house and horse barn once housed our hardworking horses and mules. In 1979 it was converted to our Vintage Restaurant. Since 1847, Stone Hill Winery has been a benchmark for quality. Jim and Betty Held purchased the winery in 1965 and pioneered the reawakening of Missouri’s wine industry. With hard work and determination, they restored the historic landmark you see today. Through it all, Stone Hill Winery has remained dedicated to providing superior wine, food, entertainment and hospitality. Guten appetit!

Truly remarkable. The French onion soup is the absolute best besides my German homemade recipe. I was truly impressed. Also the spinach artichoke dip was delicious as well as the Bread Pudding. My loved ones and I had a truly blessed time. Will be back. Can’t wait!

We’re so surprised at some of the negative reviews this restaurant has received because we had an absolutely wonderful night celebrating our anniversary at Vintage 1847! We arrived early and were told the table by the window my fiancé had requested was not quite ready yet, which was completely understandable, so we played checkers while we waited. When we had to wait an extra five minutes past our reservation time they comped us each a glass of (delicious) wine. Our waitress, April, was charming and attentive, and the food was so flavorful and excellently prepared. Plus the view of the vineyard and the town from up on the winery hill was so romantic and charming. This experience alone was worth the drive from KC to Hermann. We’ll be back!

Delicious German food with unique setting inside a historic stable (pics are of combo meal, French onion soup, etc).

Service was perfect, but food is mediocre at best. Brie appetizer is completely flavorless, German Duo had no seasoning and looked like somebody went theough a buffet line and thew a bunch of food on the plate. Spaetzl was gummy and unseasoned, tasted like it has cheeses sauce from a jar on it. The French onion soup was nice though. Definitely way over priced for what you get.

The restaurant is fine as long as you’re not expecting authentic German food (or beer). Potato pancakes were shredded hash browns. Not bad, but not potato pancakes. Pork schnitzel not what I’ve had in Germany. It wasn’t bad either – just not what I was expecting. If you go in with the expectation that you’re going to an American restaurant with some German named food, you should be fine. If you think you’ve found an authentic German restaurant you might be disappointed.

We didn’t realize we would be going through Herrmann when we went to look at purchasing a trailer. On the way back through, we stopped for dinner. The last time we were in Herrmann, we didn’t make it here to eat. I was excited they were open so we could give it a go. I was filled with excitement when I realized the inside was a renovated barn, and we were able to sit in a booth, which used to be a stall. We both ordered the French Onion soup. There is a reason it reads ‘famous’. It was so delicious and cheesy. It’s probably the best I have had in a while. For dinner, I ordered the grilled chicken spaetzle, which is made in-house, and hubs got the German Trio. Again… delicious! The salad was fresh with a great house made balsamic vinaigrette and 2 warm delightful rolls. I also got a side of the warm german potato salad having bacon flavor with a hint of something tart. With all the food and Norton wine, we did not have room for dessert, unfortunately. Cassidy took very good care of us during our visit.

Food was fantastic and I would recommend the Duo and potato pancake. Probably other items worth while too. Warning: this place is kept pretty chilly.

The biggest problem: we ordered an appetizer almost immediately after we sat down and then 2 more dishes for the table the next time our server appeared. We were hear for about an 1:45 mostly waiting on food that was not better than lukewarm when it arrived.

I can only imagine how good the pretzel and cheese sauce would have been if it was actually warm. Who knows what the problem was today.

Off season Monday night and walked right in. The restaurant was an old horse barn and was interesting to us. One server that kept busy but kept up with all she had to do. We split the German Trio & a bottle of Moscato. For the most part we loved it all, but we both agreed the Sauerbraten was a little dry & tough. Prices were reasonable and we were just too full for dessert.

Great atmosphere. Excellent, authentic German dishes. Excellent service. There was a slight delay in getting our entree and the manager personally apologized and gave me a free glass of wine to apologize for the delay. Great and friendly wait staff. Highly recommend.

Definitely missed the mark. There were like 8 people in the dining room and waitress disappeared. We would have ordered at least $50 more food and wine. Everything was great until our food was delivered, and the waitress never came back…
