We’ve been longtime fans of Yu’s Mandarin and have enjoyed dining at their Schaumburg and Vernon Hills locations for years. When the Wheeling location opened, we were excited because it’s much closer to us, and we started coming here regularly.
Unfortunately, over time we’ve noticed a decline in the quality of the food. During our recent visits, the meat didn’t taste fresh and had a noticeable off flavor. If you’re used to eating fresh meat, the difference is pretty clear. At first, we thought it might have just been a one-time issue, so we decided to give it another try. Sadly, the experience was the same.
It’s disappointing because we’ve always enjoyed Yu’s Mandarin, but the quality and overall taste of the dishes seem to have gone down. Considering the prices (around $20 per dish and $15–$17 for noodle soups), we expected the same level of quality we’ve experienced at their other locations. We hope the management looks into this and brings the food quality back to the standard they’re known for.

Best and authentic Chinese restaurant in the town and definitely our go-to place every week! Went for lunch and dinner with friends many times at this place and everyone absolutely love this place! Tonight I ordered 5 dishes to take out for my family. My son only eats the eggplant cooked by Yu’s Mandarin! We are very happy and satisfied the quality, taste, price and quantity of each dish every time. They never let us disappointed!

I finally got here, been wanting to come since this new location opened! We came here with friends for lunch! The portions were small! I had the beef with flat rice noodles (this was pretty good and had a lot of “wok hey”)! My friends had Mongolian beef (great flavor and beef was very tender) garlic chicken (too salty and the chicken was dry) and the Kung Pao Shrimp (shrimp was over cooked)! The staff really are not too attentive, we waited over 10 mins before anyone came to get our order! The noise level was pretty high, can’t hear each other talk without raising our voice! All lunch entrees come with egg roll, fried wonton, fried rice and soup (choice of hot & sour or egg drop)!

We have been patrons of Yu’s Mandarin for nearly two decades. Our recent visit to the Wheeling location reminded us why: the excellent vibe, the dedicated service, and the consistently high-quality food. We especially enjoyed the grilled red snapper, which was expertly prepared, extraordinarily delicious, and beautifully presented.

Heard this place was good and was not disappointed. Good parking, great ambience. Lei, the Hostess was impressed with our knowledge of Chinese food. The shrimp toast is great, the hot mustard is packs a punch, the hot and sour soup is full of tasty additions, the velvet crab and corn soup truely velvety. The Moo Shoo Pork is good, though the pancakes a bit thick. But the real separator is the Fish Casserole (might be better called Szechwan Fish Casserole). This dish is fantastic and while we have had this before at another place, their’s is top of the line. The Szechwan Eggplant is also fantastic and not something you find everywhere. My favorite of the night. How much can you try at one meal! We will head back to see Lei and dig into more of the hidden gems on this menu!

The food and service was very good. I was early on a Friday night and it wasn’t too busy. My server LEI was so sweet and constantly checking to see if I needed anything. I had Beef with pea pods, shrimp fried rice and egg rolls. All were served hot and fresh. I will be back.
