Our first meal in Iowa, hope this isn’t the norm. Staff is friendly, dining room looked clean. My wife and I both got the open face tenderloin. She got the salad…a hand full of iceberg lettuce and some very vinegar tasting ranch. Two bites and she said not worth it. I got the dumpling soup which was decent. The tenderloin plate was a real let down. It’s a highly processed slab smothered in gravvy. The potatoes looked good but did not taste natural. Water to drink, basically $26 before tip. If we lived in the area, wouldn’t go back.

Overall, this was a clean local restaurant with good service and good food. We will be back.
My wife and I came in for breakfast. She had an eggs, meat, and hashbrown plate. I had the 3 pancakes with a meat. She enjoyed her meal and really liked the hashbrowns. My plate of pancakes was good, but nothing revolutionary. What I will take away from my breakfast is my plate of pancakes was big enough it almost beat me! That almost never happens. So, please know their plates are bigger than they appear at first glance in the pictures (use the coffee mugs for reference), and the pancakes filled the plate.
This restaurant went through a renovation about 4 months ago (June 2024), and everything is clean, freshly painted, and comfortable. The bathrooms are clean. It is clear the staff are keeping up on everything.

Great first time experiencing. Every staff person was friendly, welcoming, smiling, and helpful to both customers and each other. Five-stars across the board. Small-town kindness. I stopped in by chance. I hadn’t eaten Red Roof before nor had my bf.
I ordered a Burger with a Side-Salad and FF; ToGo. The total paid (including tip) was shy of $20
[<$10 / per]. When I got home, I told the bf how much I spent and he was super impressed about that part, especially after seeing how much food we got. Then we shared the meal. Wholly yum!

We both really enjoyed the flavor and the size of our split portions. It was just the right amount of food for two people.. *when both people aren’t super hungry but kinda could eat… Kwim? *
If I would have been truly hungry, it would have been a perfectly portioned plate without the side-salad. Maybe just a tad too much for one person, depending.

The place was dirty. Several tables we walked by hadn’t even been cleared. The cleaned booth had a lot of food crumbs in the seat. The chicken dumpling soup wasn’t even hot. The young girl who took our drink order (who I assumed was our waitress but turns out she wasn’t) wasn’t real friendly. When our “waitress” came to our table she exclaimed she had twisted her ankle that morning and let every table she took care of know that too. I even saw her put her foot up on a customers chair. She only took our food order and the young girl did the rest. No one ever checked on us or refilled our drinks. My husband ordered a fish sandwich. Nothing except the fried fish patty on the bun, and three pickle slices on the side. He said it was dry. She (the young girl) served his cottage cheese before his meal came out instead of with it. Idk if it was a one off or what but I wouldn’t go back. And I don’t want to hear about your ankle if it is just an excuse to not serve your table. Don’t complain to your tables it’s off putting.

Red roof is my go-to place to eat with a family friendly atmosphere! We always get so much food for an unbelievable price and always comes out fast. Breakfast and dinner are delicious! Waiter was so friendly and even gave us a bowl of soup on the house to try because it was that good! Highly recommended!!

Simple, good food and excellent service. Clean, nice variety, family fare. The BLT was awesome! The fries are lightly breaded for a little crunch.
