We almost left waiting way too long to be asked our drink order, but once our server did come by he was very friendly and attentive. Our drinks never ran dry. He brought lemon wedges for the fish back immediately.
Food came out in good timing and piping hot and fresh. The food was absolutely delicious and very good sized portions. The greens are incredible. The grits a little bland. The fish was cooked perfectly and was a big piece.
They do add gratuity automatically for parties of 5 or more so be mindful of that if you don’t want double tip.
Came here for a late night supper, as the options were limited since many restaurants were already closed.
I appreciated the clearly marked vegetarian options. However, unfortunately the vegetables used in the veggie dishes happened to be squash, zucchini, and cauliflower, none of which I’m a big fan of. The veggie Po Boy consisted of fries in the sandwich, but nothing to really make it a real solid meatless option.
The spinach dip is delicious, but very rich. I was plesantly surprised that the tortilla chips were actually seasoned, and quite well at that. Also, the fries were hot and crispy. I was told the chargrilled oysters were delicious.
I would stay away from the cocktails…. Its worse than Applebee’s in my option, and a whole lot pricier – very little alcohol and a whole lot of sweet syrup. We tried their featured cocktail (thank goodness we only ordered one!), and the two of us barely made a dent, literally couldn’t even drink a quarter of it.
Our server was very nice and professional, and when in doubt, he did go and ask the kitchen.
I loved the gator light fixture on the ceiling! Very creative.
After contending with the Mardi Gras crowds and traffic I managed to make my way over and sat at the bar to be served by Paige and her hospitality is awesome along with her skillset single handedly running the bar.
First up was the crab cake appetizer and I have one word – perfect. The ratio of sauce to crab cake was balanced just right and the flavor was outstanding. In truth the portion paired with a side can be an entree.
This was followed by the blackened redfish lafourche. The serving itself is very generous and the flavor is terrific but it felt a little dry. I’d like to give the benefit of the doubt and say perhaps they were so busy because of the festivities that dishes were flying out the kitchen. Perhaps a little more sauce could have done the trick but the fried crawfish accompaniment was great and I loved the collared greens.
Overall I very much enjoyed it and look forward to coming back and sampling other items on the menu .
The restaurant was nice and the waiter was very nice and attentive. Walking in the oyster grill master was showcasing his skills which was nice to see and not being done in the back of the house.
The food was pretty good. The oysters were absolutely amazing! None of my party eats oysters so I got to enjoy them by myself.
I had the gator po-boy and red beans. The po-boy was good, nothing amazing. It was kind of dry to me could’ve used more sauce due to the filling to bread ratio. They were not stingy with the gator and I’m grateful for that. Them red beans tho! SMACKIN! Those red beans and rice were about the best I’ve had in a long time. Felt like home cooking. By far the best thing I had at the establishment.
My lady had the red fish and veggies. She liked the food but felt the fish could’ve used a little more seasoning and sauce. The veggies were fresh and cooked well. I stated the fish and had the same opinion. Honestly the red beans are what gave this review an extra star because they were that good!
I will also mention that the food was slow coming out given the place wasn’t really that packed.
Not my first pick when in NOLA, it was convent being right on Bourbon St. and open late. Give it a try if you’d like.
We even got a show. Some drunk was trying to fight the staff but the kitchen came out and scared him away haha.
Being a vegetarian, I was okay with the food. I had the French fries popouy, spinach dip and mambos special rice. Fries and spinach dip were good, but could not live to my hopes.
Overall, I was happy with the experience.
