✅Stopped by for dinner and had the Amazing Tuna roll — really fresh fish, well balanced flavor, not overloaded with sauce. You can tell the quality is solid.
Service was friendly and attentive, food came out fast, and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable.
Also grabbed a cheesecake to go — perfect finish.
Definitely a place I’d come back to if you want good sushi and a smooth dining experience.

This was our second time ordering takeout from Ichiban, and unfortunately we had the same issues again. The first time, we all ordered medium rare steak and received well done instead. This time, we even tried ordering rare hoping it would come out medium rare — and it was still well done. None of us enjoy well-done steak, so that was really disappointing, especially happening twice. The rice wasn’t great, and overall the food was pretty bland. On top of that, we ordered the cowboy roll and received a completely different sushi roll, which was frustrating.
The only positive was the dessert sushi, which was actually really good.

We had a wonderful dinner at Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse. What a gem in Evanston! I had gyoza, mushroom soup, and avocado salad. Everything was fresh and delicious. My husband had hibachi filet mignon and salmon with vegetables and a salad. Perfect meal for us after a long drive!

My wife and I went here to celebrate our Anniversary. We were seated promptly and that was the end of the positive experience. We looked through our menus and ordered appetizers and drinks. It was loud enough we could not hear our waiter nor understand what they were saying and this could have played a role in the poor service. After our waiter left our table almost immediately another waiter tried to take our order again we declined however he brought us water. After waiting for about 20 minutes and browsing our menus our first appetizer arrived but there was no dishes to split our appetizer and we had also ordered another app and drinks. So we used our napkins to eat our first appetizer again we waited another 20 minutes before the second waiter came over and asked if we had ordered we said no because we were still waiting on a second appetizer and drinks he rushed back and brought us our second app which was cold was supposed to be beef tatiki seared beef strips which was nearly well done all the way through. We were then approached by I believe a hostess or front of house manager and asked if we were ready to order we declined and asked for our check because of how chaotic our experience had already been. When they returned with our check they tried charging us for the drinks which we had never received when I was looking at the bill the hostess noticed and said oh you never received your drinks and ripped the bill away and handed us a revised bill which kinda makes me suspect they were trying to over bill us on purpose. We ended up going to Sud’s bros for a burger and a beer which was amazing and service was incredibly prompt. If you are looking for an amazing sushi and Japanese grill take the time to drive to Layton and go to Tony’s Sushi and grill it is worth the drive and have never been disappointed in the at least 20 times I have been there in the last 9 years. Some things I would recommend to Ichiban in Evanston split your servers zones so they aren’t running all over each other’s tables and hire or train servers who are confident and can speak clearly to avoid misunderstandings. I worked in fine dining for years in Park City and understand stuff happens but this was supposed to be a special celebration for us and these things are avoidable from these suggestions it will make the customers experience greater, your servers and restaurant will make more money and have a greater reputation.

We asked for hot black tea, they said they did have any.
They served us Green tea, it was like water no flavor.

Omg, I honestly didn’t expect this restaurant to have such amazing, fresh, and delicious food! Everything was super fresh — the sashimi and fish were top-notch. The sushi portions were huge! I definitely fell in love, and I’m already planning to come back at the first chance I get.

The food was amazing and such a good bang for your buck. The specialty rolls are huge!! Definitely not what I was expecting. The sashimi platter appetizer is also massive! I’m used to getting small slivers of fish. Our server andre was great Definitely will return next time I’m passing through
