The food was definitely made with love like how you would get it from your mom or auntie’s cooking. There’s a certain warmth in that first bite where it transports you back in the Philippines. The staff and co-owners were also very friendly and made sure that everything was to our satisfaction.
We’re only visiting SoCal but if you’re looking for a place to make you feel like home, or if you’re looking into trying Filipino food, this is definitely the place to go. We’re already excited and planning to come back here next time we’re in the area!
I ordered to-go during my visit, but even then, I could already feel the good ambiance of the place. They had live acoustic music, which really adds to the charm and makes it a nice place to chill, hang out, or enjoy a casual night out.
The food is definitely the highlight. The pork tocino is a must-try—flavorful, slightly sweet, and different from the usual versions I’ve had elsewhere. The pork sisig was also very good, with a unique taste that sets it apart from other Filipino restaurants. The flavors are rich, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care.
If there’s one small downside, it would be the price versus portion size. The servings felt a bit small for the price, and overall it is on the pricier side, which I did notice from the menu. That said, the quality and taste of the food make up for it—I really have no complaints when it comes to flavor.
What made the experience even better was the staff. Everyone was friendly, and the person who took care of my order was especially wonderful—very warm and accommodating. I honestly thought he might be the owner or manager because of how attentive and professional he was.
Overall, I’d definitely come back, whether for a quick bite, to relax, or to enjoy the live music.
If you’re around Silver Lake and want to try Filipino food that tastes different (in a good way), Manila Inasal is worth checking out.
– Fine dining prices in more of a casual environment with superb service.
– A bit cold if you sit near the entrance.
– They are busy so recommend reservations.
– They also do to-go orders.
My first experience with Manila Inasal was during the post-pandemic period when they were still operating out of a shared kitchen in Silverlake. We ordered their signature chicken inasal, which, unfortunately, was one of the driest versions I’ve ever had. I was hoping that with their new dine-in location, things would improve.
Sadly, this visit was still underwhelming. The deconstructed kare-kare lacked the rich, nutty depth that defines one of the Philippines’ most beloved dishes. The pork sisig was crunchy and flavorful, but the sauce could’ve used more kick to balance the richness. The tortang talong (eggplant omelette) with crabmeat had a strong crab flavor that overpowered the well-prepared eggplant.
Overall, Manila Inasal seems to cater mainly to a Filipino palate, with prices leaning toward the higher end for Filipino restaurants. I genuinely hope the place finds its footing, as competition in the area is tough. My wish for newer Filipino restaurants is that they continue to evolve and draw in a broader audience—beyond the Jollibee crowd—because aside from Kuya Lord, there’s still room for more great Filipino dining experiences in Los Angeles
The Chicken Inasal was also spot on and very close to the authentic taste you’d find at Manokan Country in Bacolod. And dare I say, their Halo-halo gives Razon’s a real run for its money, it’s on that same level of goodness if not better.
The ambiance is cozy yet posh, and the place is impressively clean. The wait staff deserve a shoutout too. Very friendly, accommodating, and proactive.
We were tempted to order two more dishes, but we knew we couldn’t finish everything, so we opted for takeout instead.
My only gripe? The Pistachio Sans Rival vanished from the dessert plate within five minutes, pretty sketchy if you ask me
We’ll be back for sure! I wanted to test if their sofa table is comfy I’ll update this review along with some of the menu we haven’t tried yet.
Parking: Lots of free parking available for customers in the basement.
