I’m a huge sweet tea fan, so good sweet tea is very important to me. I was able to try it before I committed to ordering it. It was a very good sweet tea. We will be in town for a good little while. I look forward to going back.
Awesome little homey restaurant with very friendly and helpful staff. Perfect brunch spot for the morning and early afternoon. I ordered black coffee and the ratatouille omelette with a side of bacon. It was delicious. Next time i am gonna try the steak and eggs on their entrees menu. Everything was reasonably priced. Dining room was well lit and clean. Unisex bathroom with changing table for the little ones was also clean! Cant wait to come back!
This is The Best Meal I Have Had In The Area.
I was looking at the French Quarter because I’ll be down there today looking up family records and this place snuck into my listings. I’m old and disabled so parking, check. Not a massive wait, check. Unique menu with things you don’t see on literally every menu around town? Check check check.
I got the catfish and eggs with grits. No cheese because in my family it was butter and pepper if you didn’t want a look so withering you tried to sink into the floor. The tarragon sauce was perfect and light and the eggs were beautifully cooked and the grits needed no butter. Buttery and creamy already. And they have Crystal hot sauce which is my favorite for obvious reasons. That catfish was faaattt. Thick and flaky and juicy. Whomever is back there cooking it got it perfect, the most deliciously crispy exterior and just right interior.
Just a side note for ths SoCal folks, if you’re old like me and grew up going to Solvang and you’re sad the Aebelskevers don’t taste the same, come here. No raspberry jam but get the lemon curd. Hits the same notes and theirs is great. They’re baking soda not yeast I’m 99% sure but so are several of the old school ones in Solvang and theirs are flat or half burned or very, very mid. Eat these hot when you get them and you’ll get that delicate crisp on the outside and steaming clouds of heaven on the inside.
The best I can describe this place is it’s like your chef cousin and Grandpa started a restaurant together. And the cousins all work there and have been on their hustle since they could do chores and earn their own money, and they all get along and work well together.
And the decor is cute as heck. The tables and chairs are comfortable. There is tons of street parking (also lot parking). The music is loud enough to make your heart sing and your toes tap but you can still hear and talk. And the Playlist is F I R E
I’m sad.
I should have come here sooner.
Even if I were staying across the river, this place is worth the drive/Uber over.

The outdoor seating area is definitely my favorite spot to sit and relax. It has a fun, casual vibe, and there’s even a playground if you’re bringing kids along. Tasty food, a comfortable atmosphere, and great for both a date or catching up with friends.
I am so happy that we found this hidden gem. Thanks for your hospitality!
two people could eat out of one plate .the overall dining experience was good. I would like to go back there again & and would highly recommend it to others .
I found Toast Gretna while searching for a “mom and pop”, family owned “breakfast restaurant” that was not part of a national chain.
Located on the south side of the Mississippi River, and only 10-15 minutes from the French Quarter, Toast Gretna has an unassuming facade which might cause one to pass this gem of a restaurant by. However, once inside you are greeted by a friendly hostess, a colorful mural, and welcoming atmosphere.
My buddy and I had been enjoying the sights and sounds of the French Quarter for two days, (including dining the night before at one of New Orleans’ most famous family owned restaurants) and were looking for something different, so when the hostess told us the wait would be about 45 minutes, and that we could wait on the patio if we wished, we decided to wait.
The patio turned out to be a covered seating area, a full-service bar (which was doing a lively business at 11:00 AM with a variety of brunch cocktails) and a large play area for kids. The patio was busy with activity from kids playing chess to kids on the playground, to adults enjoying the morning and pleasant conversation.
My buddy and I looked at the menu while waiting so when we were finally seated, we would be ready to order. He ordered an omelette with gruyere and fine herbs with spicy sausage, and I ordered an omelette with crawfish, creamed spinach, and gruyere with ratatouille for my side.
Our food was served quickly and with little delay, which was unexpected based on the number of people in the dining areas. Our server was attentive and took very good care of us. Our breakfast was excellent. It looked so good I almost forgot to take photos.
My buddy and I agreed that our breakfast was the single best meal we had enjoyed during our visit to New Orleans. I made a point to go back to the kitchen area to commend the staff on a well-prepared meal before leaving.
While not food related, this next part is important to ladies and mothers with children. The restrooms were very clean! The restaurant was clean and well maintained. The playground was well maintained.
I can verify the rating and you can believe your hunger will be fulfilled
Great breakfast/brunch options.
The onions cheese mushroom crepes with ratatouille was excellent.
Must try the all beef spicy sausage!!
