At our Gainesville, FL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

I have been a Captain Ds native my whole life and was super excited about the opening of this location. The food that was received was fresh and good. The service was amazing up to the point of sending my son back because we ordered double fries on two meals and they stated they put all 4 orders of fries where placed in one meal box which wasn’t the case. And also I do not know who made the honey mustard please find a way to order it so it actually taste and looks like the honey mustard all captan ds lovers love because this is not it. But over all I love captain ds and plan to visit more

Well my wife was so excited for Captain D’s to be in Gainesville, she would now not to go out to Starke anymore with one of her girlfriends. We drove past it at first no lit up sign the only reason is i work in the area, and plus all the taillights from all the cars in the drive thru.We sat in the drive thru for close to 30 mins, after 20 mins a nice young gentleman came around apologizing for the delay as people didn’t know the menu so he was handing out flyers/menus. Well we finally got up to order and i was all ready for my Big Chicken, i ordered my wifes, and then i asked what they put on the big chicken, she said she believed mayo, i said thats fine. 2 different times i said BIG chicken, we got our order and we drove home to NW Gainesville. Got home opened everything up , and i was like this sandwich looks like fish not chicken, sure enough they messed up MY order, my wife’s order was fine, everyone was friendly, they just to pay attention to the customer when they order, my receipt even had giant sandwich, . Hopefully they can correct these issues with long drive thru wait times and wrong orders. Do better next time!

The location appears to be well-staffed with many new employees.
The restaurant was very busy throughout the day yesterday (Sunday) which is a testament to the great interest in having a Captain D’s here in Gainesville.
Be sure to check for local specials, or online only specials if using the mobile app. Example: currently there’s a Senior Special on Wednesdays and Sundays.
*note: as of today, one cannot order and pay in advance for the Gainesville location. We were told that this is just a temporary situation, as this is a newly-opened location*

I’m not a big fast food fan but I really like battered fried whitefish or Cod. Saw this place open a few weeks ago but it was too crazy busy to stop. Went today and it was great! Kudos to the staff…very friendly and helpful. Kudos to management for hiring them! Food was excellent, service was great and the place was super clean! Had the 3 battered fish strips plate with fires and green beans. Will definitely be back!

The restaurant was clean and the one taking our order was nice.. the food was not bad but it was hot which was a plus.. I had the fish sandwich and was glad to know that the tarter sauce was homemade… my husband got the fish and chicken combo, it was hot the mac and cheese was not so good..

I got to eat at Captain D’s for the Friends and Family opening. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection, the service was friendly and the place is very clean. I can’t wait to go back and try more things. I will be visiting a lot, because they have a nice variety of food items and it’s very conveniently located.

They are new as of 1-27-26. I’m loyal to them because I like the food. There is nothing like it near me. They have made some mistakes like getting orders wrong. But they fix it good and fast. Brand new store and employees so training is still happening. I have faith they will work out the kinks soon. They are still so new. Only open for 1 week at time of this review. I enjoy their senior menu especially that I’m 62. Also have good parking in the back. Not just up front. * Also, I haven’t been able to get the points on the app. I reached out to the app company to let them know too. I hope the app points will be fixed soon. I do Doordash and picked up a order from them. The order was ready and placed in a pick up area. The manager assisted me to make sure I take and confirm the correct order. Including drinks. Smooth pick up process for Doordash orders.

Food was HORRIBLE, fries under cooked, fish over cooked, dry, NO seasoning, tasted bland. Only things that were good were the shrimp ( not enough, only 6) and the hush puppies. I wouldn’t recommend going there if you want BLAH food. Cashier wasn’t friendly either, she looked annoyed. Coleslaw had an overwhelming taste to it that wasn’t good

Greeted by Mavis a very sweet woman . I had the southern plate fish ,green beans coleslaw and hush puppies. All was wonderful at a great price. There were employee’s checking on diners and anything you needed they brought. It was the second day open and I feel they did a wonderful job. I’ve owned a restaurant and a new open is the time to learn. Rest job and food

I didn’t have any high expectations of this place, but given it was new I was surprised at how courteous everybody was and how good the food was. Hopefully that lasts as the vapors from frying over years and years slowly enveloped their kitchen
