Last month my boyfriend and I ate here for a quick dinner since we were in town for some business. The reviews were promising, but none of them warned us about three key issues he and I had major problems with.

I’ll start with noting that the anesthetics of this place aren’t particularly appealing. It has the appearance and atmosphere of an old diner/dinner-hall with dated chairs. When we arrived it was after 6pm on a Monday and the place was pretty much empty with the exception of two people occupying the main dining area and one or two patrons at the bar. We were seated almost immediately.

He and I ordered burgers and fries. The food was excellent, no complaints there, and our waitress for the most part was fine…until she asked my boyfriend if he wanted a refill on his soda and he agreed. And then we got the bill soon after.

This was where the issues cropped up. He and I were shocked and irritated to see the surplus of charges on there.

This place charged us not only for our meal, but they tacked on an extra charge for using a card to pay AND a bar charge as well – and neither of us even used the bar!

The icing on the cake was the charge for his refill. Now I already think its ridiculous for places to charge for soda refills, but what I despise most of all is when business don’t even warn you or tell you about it until you are looking at the charge on your bill. The cost was ridiculous as well. Our waitress completely neglected to inform us the refills weren’t free when she offered it and I hate when waiters do that.

We made sure to deduct the cost of that refill from her tip.

That, on top of the two extra ridiculous charges immediately made our decision to not come back next time we eat in johnstown. I’ve never seen any restaurant do that before for their billing, and I’ve eaten at a good amount in different places. They don’t even have the decency to warn you about them.

Save yourself the extra expense. Don’t eat here. Its not worth it.

Nice bar owned by the Lanzi family. They also own and operate The Sport Island Pub, Lakeside Tavern and Lanzis on the Lake. This is a casual homey bar that seems to have a good local following. The staff were extremely courteous. They have a nice selection of draft beer including their own GSL ipa The menu is typical bar fare with some nice additions. They also had chicken and biscuits along with meatloaf as specials. The food was very good. We will be back.

One of the best hole-in-a-wall bars I have ever visited. We are treated as a family there, by regulars and by the amazing staff (Chris!). Food is delicious, fish was so fresh and cooked perfectly. Loved the coleslaw too. Thank you for making my husband and I feel like at home.

Came for lunch and it was decently busy for one server and the bar tender. Food and drink prices are ok for the quality. The place was clean and that’s where the goodness ends. Sadly, I can’t say the Hawaiian BLT was anything special- three pieces of bacon with a huge leaf of lettuce, a slice of canned pineapple (I thought it would be grilled not straight from the can), and a slab of tomato on bread. I asked for Pepper Jack instead of Swiss but still got Swiss. The picture attached is what the Hot Turkey Sandwich looks like… I don’t know WHO thinks ANYONE would want THAT much gravy for their meal. We asked for gravy to be on the side so that soggy mess could be avoided but obviously that request was also ignored. Whether these errors were on the server for not clearly communicating to the chef, or simply the chef not caring, it speaks quite loudly for this establishment. We expected better from a restaurant/pub that’s owned and operated by the same people that own Lorenzo’s in Amsterdam.

First time there . It’s a bar/pub it was loud and noisy. Food was good not over the top but was delicious. The waitress knew her stuff , she was efficient and on the ball . They had a large assortment of beers on tap . I would eat there again perhaps earlier in the day .

Nice local tavern with a neighborhood feel. French onion soup was great my friend really enjoyed the fried fish special. Other entrees and wings looked delicious. I had chicken and biscuits that I would not order again. Wasn’t very appealing chunks of dry chicken w barely any sauce over a dry biscuit. Needed extra beverage just to eat.
Throw some veggies in and make a true gravy and use dark meat to make this classic dish a favorite. Heat the biscuit!!
Popular place in town with a big following and locally famous owners.
Wishing they focused more on the fact that people appreciate really good food at a reasonable price.
