I used to frequent the first location near ULL while in grad school in Lafayette ten years ago. I live out of state now but came back to Lafayette area recently and decided to try their second location in youngsville. The food still tastes great after all these years! Definitely recommend you try this restaurant out for the unique, delicious cuisine they serve. I ordered the Reina Pepeida arepa and Reina pepeida patacon. Both were delicious.

We ordered a cake from here for my dad and brother’s birthdays (born on the same day). They went above and beyond – such a beautiful cake and they even accommodated our request for half caramel and half powdered sugar toppings. Heidi Jacobs McDonald and I have been making our rounds, visiting the restaurants nominated for Foodies of Lafayette’s Culinary Excellence Award for 2025! Today was quite a joy because three other Culinary Excellence Panel Members joined us—Kitty Credeur, Stacy Charles, and Tiffany De Leon Steward!!
It’s no wonder Patacon was nominated—everything we ordered was fabulous! Oh, and that plantain lasagna was my favorite!

Menu highlights include the Arepa Chicken ($9.57), featuring shredded chicken, white cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and butter served on a baked cornmeal patty; the Homemade Lasagna Plantains (highly recommended); the Arepa Brisket ($12.50), which includes brisket, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and avocado on a baked cornmeal patty; and Tequenos with guava and cheese.

Looking for gluten free options during a road trip isn’t very easy. My family and I were traveling from Houston to
New Orleans and as dinner time approached while driving through Lafayette, we started looking for food options.
When Patacon came up on my list I was ecstatic. We are Venezuelan/Colombian so finding our traditional food is always wonderful, especially after my celiac diagnosis. It was already 7pm so we had to take our food to go, but the restaurant is very clean inside and welcoming. The family who runs it are super nice and gave us lots of tips for our trips and made us want to go back. We ordered the reina pepiada and brisket arepas and we were in heaven. We have a lot of arepa places back in South Florida and my mom (who is super picky and hard to please) said the places we frequent should go to Patacon and learn from them!
Gluten free review: happy to report, no issues with gluten for me having the reina pepiada! I asked about ingredients before ordering and it was a fit for me.

Stopped for lunch on our way home to Texas around 11:30. It was the perfect time right before the lunch rush. SO glad we came here. I shared the brisket patacon with my husband and my girls shared a cheese and a chicken empanada plus an order of cheese tequeños. And we also had a slice of tres leches for dessert. It was all delicious! No one left hungry. I wish we lived closer and could eat here more often. The staff was great, the food came out quickly, and the bathrooms were clean. The perfect road trip lunch stop.

So delicious… the arepas and empanadas are always fresh and super tasty! Got a flan to go but it was a bit too thick for my liking. They have whole cakes for preorder as long as you call a day in advance. Tres leches was perfect, not too sweet!

Absolutely delicious! Had a shredded beef patacon. Super fresh and flavorful. I also recommend asking for some spicy sauce and adding plenty of it! Can’t wait to try more off of their menu.
