Is it wrong to love a restaurant mostly for the vibe?
Sure, I care about the food—we all do—but in this case, the atmosphere stole the show. What really made the night special wasn’t just what was on the plate, but what was in the air: live blues music that took me right back to my roots.
Being a true Chicagoan, I remember my first visit to Maxwell Street in the late ’60s. Back then, the area was known as Jew Town—not in a derogatory way, but because many of the businesses there were owned by Jewish families. Little factories lined the streets, making socks and all sorts of goods. And, of course, that’s where the famous Maxwell Street Polish sandwich was born.
But what really stuck with me were the blues players. I remember seeing legends like Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon, and Junior Wells, just playing on the street like it was the most natural thing in the world. It wasn’t unusual to see big names jamming with local talent. The music was electric—pure magic.
So when I recently found myself in Spring Grove and ended up at The Grove for a bite, it was more than just dinner—it was a little trip down memory lane. Great blues, cold drinks, and a laid-back vibe? Count me in. I’ll definitely be back for the music—and maybe a sandwich, too.
Being a Photographer I took these photos of the players.

This place is great. Combination of great food and really friendly staff and nice salty popcorn. Glad it’s in our town!

The calamari and crispy fish tacos were good. I thought both were lacking flavor though, especially the calamari. Maybe serve with some lemon wedges? I have to say the calamari were perfectly done. Light crispy breading and not chewy. Nachos were good. Server never mentioned her name and didn’t seem very happy to be there. I know sometimes people have off days. Nice place and the rest of the staff was great. We’ll be back.

Great menu and specials. All the food is great. The holiday decorations are crazy fun and bingo is a blast. Try the Tuesday Taco with brisket. The best!

Quaint little bar on the corner in Spring Grove, Illinois. We went during the Holidays and it was decorated to impress! Food was good, drinks were too.

I ordered two burgers medium rare and a avocado wrap and mozzarella logs the burgers were the most rare I have ever been served the mozzarella logs had no flavor in the breading and were overcooked the marinara was garbage and for 67$ I am not impressed at all and I will not be going back !!!

The outdoor seating is second to none around. Day, night, sun, or rain. (The roof opens and closes) it’s a nice atmosphere regardless of the weather. Unfortunately the popularity of this restaurant has out grown the size of the kitchen and it can be a wile for food after ordering. Like some other places in 2023 the menu here has seen an increase in prices.

Service and entertainment was fantastic. The steak sandwich was $28 and nothing special. Recommend the chic fingers and nachos, but the food in general is average and overpriced.
