And then… we were seated under the roof.
Only near the beach and tucked back just far enough to be obstructed by trees and sunshades. I asked if we could move to one of the many open beach tables, but apparently the difference between six people and seven is the difference between “absolutely” and “not a chance.” Never mind that we could have fit. Never mind that this is a once‑in‑a‑lifetime dinner on Norman Island. Rules are rules, and Pirates Bight was sticking to them like barnacles on a hull.
Friendly staff, yes. Flexible staff? Not so much.
Thankfully, the bartender was working overtime to keep the mood high. We started with a round of Painkillers — delicious, strong, and almost strong enough to make me forget the beach‑table heartbreak. Almost.
Then came the food.
I asked the waiter for his recommendation, and he confidently steered me toward the pan‑fried snapper. It arrived fast and hot, which was promising… until I took a bite. Kind of dry and notably bland. The kind of fish that makes you whisper, “Really? On an island? I can see the fish from here…” Honestly, my air fryer at home has produced more memorable seafood, and it doesn’t charge me $60 for a round of water which turned out to be bottled in Fiji. At that price, I expected the bottle to come with a treasure map or at least a pirate to come pour it for me.
Meanwhile, two guys in our group ordered the Pirate’s Pasta and were having a borderline spiritual experience. I sent my snapper back and made the switch, and suddenly life made sense again. Rich, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for when you’re eating dinner on a legendary pirate island.
So here’s the final verdict:
Go for the atmosphere — it’s flawless.
Stay for the bartender — they’re doing the Lord’s work.
Prepare for food that’s hit‑or‑miss and prices that qualify as legal piracy.
If you manage to snag a beach table, you’ll probably forgive everything. If not, well… at least the Painkillers are strong.
By the way, make time to do the amazing hike which starts on the left side of the restaurant, we did that the next day, not hard and the views are spectacular.
Willie T’s closed surprisingly early compared to the reputation I had read about. Don’t forget to leave your sticker!!
Took a short walk up the hill to the back to look for birds and found a couple goofy common ones. Everyone is so incredibly nice!!
We had lunch here and were seated in the middle, close to the bar. Despite the place not being full we had quite the waiting experience. For the menus to arrive, for the orders to be taken, for the drinks to arrive, for the appetizers to arrive, for the main to arrive, for more drinks to arrive, for the cheque to arrive and for someone to take our money. We stayed over 2 hours for what was supposed to be a quick lunch.
The food itself was ok. The conch fritters were nice, the shrimp were strangely sweet. Chicken fachitas were nice.
The setting is fantastic but the acoustics are terrible if you are seated right inside. It got very loud just from conversations. Had we had drinks we wouldn’t have cared, but we didn’t. So we sat at our table with no food and no drink, trying to have a conversation over the noise.
All in all, for the food, I would go again. Bring time, make sure you order drinks right when you are seated or it will take a while.
If you go there, order the Lime in the Coconut for a refreshing island frothy drink, coconut shrimp or Conch fritters, scallops with chorizo, and a salad. The entrees seem to take extra extra long to prepare.
