When we got the announcement that the Dube would be reopening after years of dormancy, I was so excited. Back when I was in college during the early 2000s, the Dube and Shi Sha Lounge were my go-to late night hangout spots. The drinks were cheap, the food was pretty great for the cost, and more than anything, it just felt good to be in that space. The vibes were right, as the kids say.
But I was also a little nervous. What made the Dube such a great hangout was exactly that: the vibes. The place felt like home in the way only a dive bar or a neighborhood restaurant can. And over the years, I’ve watched some of my favorite dives get “cleaned up” to appeal to a broader, shinier crowd…usually at the expense of everything I loved about them. I couldn’t help but wonder, would the same thing happen to the Dube?
I’m happy to report: it didn’t. While the Dube looks a little different than I remember, the vibes are exactly where they should be. The space feels both familiar and new. It keeps that dive bar soul, with random art collections on the wall and a darker, moody color scheme. Even though it’s technically “new,” this version of the Dube already feels like it’s been around for years.
The staff fits the place perfectly: quirky and cool. Our server was great…tattoos everywhere, super helpful in walking my buddy through the pescatarian options, and careful to steer her away from anything with beef or chicken. She was friendly but not overly chatty, which is exactly how I like it.
I ordered the cheeseburger, onion rings, and a piña colada. The burger was exactly what I wanted: well-seasoned, crispy edges, and not overloaded with toppings. The onion rings were crispy on the outside, soft inside. And the piña colada didn’t have a strong alcohol taste, which I appreciated since I wasn’t trying to get schwasted off one drink (this isn’t a gay bar, after all).
My buddy got the fish sandwich and fries. I won’t speak for her, but she said she really enjoyed it.
It just felt good to be back at the Dube. I’m genuinely glad today’s college students will get to experience the same space I loved 20 years ago. It’s still an institution. If you’ve been thinking about checking it out, now’s a great time. Summer break means no student crowds and parking in the area is free.99. We went around 5:30pm and, as you can see, there wasn’t a huge crowd.

I had an amazing time at this restaurant. The owner is so sweet and personable. Best Reuben sandwich I’ve had in my entire life. Food super fresh and authentic definitely will be back.

Don’t often leave restaurant reviews, but this experience has stuck with me for a few days. Went with my wife and two other friends on Wednesday for dinner. None of us had been to the re-animated version of the Dube but were optimistic to check it out finally. It was wildly disappointing and overpriced. Ordered the Hummus and Tzatziki plate ($12) to get a very underwhelming amount of assorted baby carrots, celery, and pita in a basket. I always loved the greek options at the real Dube so I had the lamb gyro ($12 WITHOUT fries), asked the server about sides and listed the handcut fries as being really good. My gyro had maybe four small slices of lamb and the fries were obviously frozen crinkle cut fries as were all the other fries served at our table. My wife loves chicken sandwiches so she had that option ($10 WITHOUT fries) and what came out was the tiny circle frozen chicken patty that you got in elementary school with iceberg lettuce and one slice of tomato. No condiments or any real seasoning to speak of. They also do not have draft beer, so we had canned beer with this extremely underwhelming meal. After paying our $55 tab I chalked this one up to never being able to go home again, and officially will be moving on from what was once my favorite restaurant in the world. RIP.

Mickey is one of the best parts of the Dube! I get take out and her voice is always, ALWAYS, cheerful, happy and ready to recommend the best dessert for me! She brightens my day just by saying “Hello!”
Give The Dube a try. Don’t expect the old menu and you will not be disappointed!

Ughhhh… I hate writing this.
The Dube was one of my favorite diners back in the day. Primarily because you could get whatever you wanted whenever you wanted.
Spaghetti with a chocolate shake? You got it. Macaroni and cheese with a side spaghetti? No problem. Dom with grilled cheese? Duhhh.
The menu made the restaurant.
Now, the menu is one page and, quite frankly, the food blows.
I was there last night and had a VERY salty overcooked burger and very underwhelming hummus. Neither of which was worth finishing.
My partner had a Reuben that was so messy the bread fell apart and he had to eat it with a fork. Also which he didn’t finish. Not because he couldn’t, but because he didn’t want to.
Super disappointing to go back to the Dube and have such an awful experience.

Same quirky atmosphere as the old Dube. Meatball and chicken parm sandwiches were great. Cheese fries were okay. Quite a few canned beers.

You go for the nostalgia— not for the food. This place is a legacy and I realize that they’ve only been open a few days after a many years hiatus with new owners, but that being said— in theory this is a restaurant forward joint that also happens to have a bar not the other way around. So I was expecting a slightly different food experience than gfs chicken tenders and krinkle fries. Half the “limited menu” was not available which is totally understandable with a soft opening that expectedly garnered ALOT of hype but with the cheap bar food it begs the question will anyone come back after the novelty wears off? My house salad was truly just a side salad in a bigger bowl. Lettuce, some random spinach, 2 tomato wedges, 3 thinly sliced cucumbers and a “housemade” ranch that was definitely Hidden Valley or a knockoff. Which I personally abhor. It’s also worth noting its not a gluten-free friendly menu. I certainly hope they work out the kinks because as it stands you go for the vibes and enough drinks to forget the food.

Disgrace…. say it’s another So so Greek place on campus… no service 10 minutes in… see the menu if tour wondering if anything old rhe old Dube is here… NO ITS NOT… change the name and be what you want it to be whoever the new owner is this is awful MY OPINION ONLY

Had the Fish and Chips today and It was great! I’ve tried a few other things on the menu and haven’t been disappointed. Its nice to have a late night spot to get a bite to eat and finish off a great night!

So happy this restaurant has reopened. Great combination of updates while maintaining the Dube atmosphere we all previously loved. Appetizers and food are solid. Be sure to ask about specials of the day. I have tried the fried chicken special as well as Pastistio, and both were excellent. The Greek salad was very very good as well. Great liquor selection, fast bar service. I definitely recommend you give them a try!
