My wife and I were just passing through on our way from Denver to our home in Boise. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Evanston(another review)and asked Weston, the evening clerk at the hotel, where to eat. He recommended the Lincoln Highway Tavern.

We walked in at about 9:40 pm. The kitche closes at 10. We wouldn’t have been surprised to be turned away, but the wonderful woman covering the bar and kitchen, forties, glasses, dark hair, was very friendly and gracious. She also took excellent care of us, despite really having to hustle.

I had the pulled pork tacos and my wife had the teriyaki wings. The tacos(I ordered two)were stuffed with pulled pork that was very tasty, and came with crema, a sweet relish salsa, and cheese(a slight upcharge). My tacos came with tortilla chips that were crispy and well salted. My wife liked her wings.

If we’re passing through again, we would definitely stay in Evanston and have a meal at Lincoln Highway Tavern.

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon right about the time they opened and the place really did fill up quickly. Service was a little slow with only one server but she was busy. I was really excited to try the pork sandwich with rosemary au jus but I was really disappointed when the sandwich came out with very little, and very dry pork. The au jus was rosemary flavored oil and not at all what I’d describe as a jus. The French fries were definitely the best part of the meal and very tasty. A great dive bar but I’d probably just stick to the drinks and maybe appetizers on a return visit.

Sitting at the truck stop across the street and decided to come over and get a burger. It did not disappoint! Now I kinda wish I would have tried the bison patty but it was still delicious. I had the brown and gold burger with sweet potato fries. Highly recommend.

Second time here and sad to say we won’t be returning. I ordered a rare burger and was served a VERY well done hockey puck. (Twice) Another person ordered homemade chili that we were told is the best around. It was terrible. The service was great though. Nice people. Fries and onion rings were good as well. Seems to be a local hang out. Place used to be a gas station that has been converted into a bar/restaurant. Bummed it was so terrible.

I was staying at the Holiday Inn Express and this place was walking distance. I wanted to try all of their main attractions so I was enticed to try the 66 Buffalo Burger and it was AMAZING I would recommend that I’d I got nothing else but for an appetizer I got the roasted Japanese chilies and 6 wings and they were also pretty good. I would recommend you coming our here especially if your in the area. The bartender was pretty attentive and I watched football. Definitely the kind of bar I would hang at if I was here more often. I recommend you coming out.

I was excited to try the Lincoln Highway Tavern. The drinks were good but the food was a little disappointing. We had the dip and it was likely the best entree of the ones we got. But even the dip was mediocre. The brats were half charcoal like they forgot about them. Not just the burn from the skillet. At the last moment we decided to try the crispy wings and this was the biggest disappointment of the night. Maybe they rushed to get them out because we ordered so late in our meal. I’ll never know. But I would not describe them as crispy wings. Service was good and friendly. Food was disappointing.

What can I say about Kellie. . . Worst bartender/waitress I have ever seen or will ever see. She gets it all messed up for one reason or another. The good thing though is she’s remarkably gorgeous, has such a beautiful smile, and the top half of this is nothing but a lie. She was absolutely incredible. The cook (I wish I would have caught his name) was amazing. He knew what he was doing and anticipated anything that was about to be thrown at him.

This place is definitely not one of those types of spots that’s for everyone but if it’s for you then you already know.
