Grasshopper’s Bar and Grill in Freeport, IL is an absolute gem! After three visits in a row, I can confidently say this place is a must-visit for anyone in the area. Their food is phenomenal, with massive, juicy burgers that are easily some of the best in Freeport. The homemade, hand-cut fries and chips are crisp, golden perfection, and their cheese curds? Easily the best in the region—crispy, gooey, and full of flavor.

Stopped in passing through while visiting family. My mushroom/Swiss burger was a 1/2 pound burger with such flavor to the mushrooms, and could actually taste the cheese! The onion rings were nice, big round thick slices. Able to bite right through them. ( did not pull the whole onion out with first bite). We are looking forward to trying more items on the menu next time in town. Hopfully menu and food remains consistent. We parked on the street, but looked like large parking lot just across from front door. Owners were very friendly and welcoming. Clean establishment. Not a large place, we ate at the bar, but do offer tables to sit at if you choose.

Downtown Freeport really needed this gem. We had royalty service from start to finish. And OMG the food was to die for. I dont know what they used on that mushroom burger but damn it was fire . Those fresh cut fries so light and crispy I’m not supposed to have fried food but this is too good to pass up. We will definitely be regular customers!

he Grasshopper Bar and Grill is the dive bar America needs—50¢ wings on Thursdays (I cried in public when I bought the last basket, zero regrets) and a Mushroom & Swiss Burger so good it should be illegal. The cook is fresh out of prison, but don’t worry—he’s rehabilitating society one juicy burger at a time. Bathrooms? There’s a soccer ball in the urinal so you can “beat the goalie” while you handle business. Sometimes the blacked-out man from upstairs stumbles down like a bonus level of life, and it’s always magical. Best part? They’re NOT racist—just good food, cheap drinks, and chaotic joy.
