I came here because I saw they had a page in their menu entirety devoted to grilled cheese sandwiches and I was in need of comfort food! My friend and I came here and ordered the Holy Cheesus and the Walt Disney one, and got the tomato soup and Tator tots as sides. Omg so delicious- best grilled cheese we’ve had at a restaurant and the tomato soup was amazing.
They had several different alcohol free beers for me to choose from (and of course they have, and specialize in, alcoholic drinks). We met one of the owners (Milton) and he was so nice! He told us about their happy hour, and we saw the lovely huge outdoor area, which is dog-friendly and our friends will love that.
You could easily miss this gem sandwiched between a 7-11 and a laundromat several blocks beyond Del Ray’s main action area, but if you don’t miss it you will be happy. A dive bar feel, friendly staff, comfort food, patio- we feel like we found our “new place” and we will be back.

Absolutely top notch. The lack of obvious curb appeal hides a great gem of a restaurant and bar with spacious indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly and professional staff. Delicious menu items. Nice selection of beer and liquor. Also a good waiting location if you have DCA business.

You definitely want to check this place out. You’ll add it to your faves, for sure. So many great food and drink options. Within my group we ordered the grilled steak and cheese, steak tacos and loaded tots. Everything tasted great and prices are fantastic. We also enjoyed the variety of drink options and are excited to return and try other menu items. Also look forward to visiting when it warms so we can spend time in the beer garden. Great experience all around!!

Amazing food. Loaded grilled cheeses and wings are to die for! Best spot in town for nice whiskey and craft beers. Oh and the “Secret Garden” is a very nice touch

Stopped at 7-11 next door for some things and was hungry. I didn’t want taquitos so I poked my head in Hops n Shine. Milton is incredibly chill and talked over the menu. Everything comes with a side, I chose tots. Perfectly crisp n golden brown. Food was good and came out FAST! Cooked right in front of you. I’ll have to come back when I’m not on the clock for happy hour. The place is small. “Cozy” so I wanted to gatekeep. The tomato soup is good, pick a grilled cheese, any of em, they’re all winners. Try the hot dogs too. Point is, the owner Milton is too good a dude for people not to know about his spot. Check out Hops n Shine. Support local businesses. You won’t leave hungry… or thirsty!

Nice cozy neighborhood feel. Daily specials and Happy Hour offerings. Moonshine cocktails are good and strong. Great selection of sandwiches- we loved the steak sandwich and the Beyond Burger. Recommend the fries and tots as sides too.

Don’t sleep on this place. Tons of good beers on tap and the food was GREAT! We got the Steak and Chz (per their recommendation) sweet potato fries, the Let’s Shroom and tomato soup – everything was really really good. I’ll be back, I’ll tell my friends. For real, this place is a hidden gem!

Service was amazing! Not a huge space, although I didn’t go in the back so not sure what the outdoor space looks like. Huge beer and alcohol selection, which is nice. Also a pretty decent size food menu as well. Hot dog was delicious, and my loaded tots were good too. I’m not always a fan of beer cheese, but it was yummy. Would definitely go back and try a grilled cheese.

Milton was an awesome bartender/server. First time here and he gave me the tour of the place and a breakdown of the menu. Happy hour wings and drafts were on point, house beers were tasty. It’s not fancy, and that’s okay. Keep up the good work!
