Reviews
Portions are huge (plates are very large) and filling, for a very reasonable price. They’re very friendly, and the service is phenomenal — I was given a small portion of braised fish on the house, and had a lovely conversation about the death of Chinese dialects. Will definitely be back every time I’ll be in the area!
The scallion pancakes were on the oily side and a little flavorless, the lo mein didn’t have much flavor even with shrimp. The spicy fish filet was definitely spicy and overall pretty salty.
Sad to report that I’m not be able to share a more positive review of the food that I tried. I really wanted to tell everyone to come to Wakefield for delicious Chinese food outside of Boston, but unfortunately I am unable to do that.
The large wonton soup was a big bowl of what looked like plain buillion broth with a few scant pieces of scallion thrown in. 6 lonely dumplings floated on top. No mushrooms, carrots, lettuce, nothing to make it tasty or feel like soup. When I questioned the gentleman who attended to us, he didn’t seem concerned and didn’t ask what we liked or didn’t like. It was pretty expensive for plain chicken buillion. Then my son ordered a shrimp dish and rice. He asked for it to be not spicy, just a little bit and he gestured with his fingers, very little spice. We were assured that’s what they would do. The dish came to us with large pieces of hot chili. Once again when we told the waiter he didn’t seem concerned. Fortunately it was just on the borderline of heat my son could take and he picked out all the pieces. It would have been okay if it had been tasty but it was like someone had thrown cheap soy sauce over shrimp, no flavor. To top it off, we had to go to an event so we asked for the leftovers and he took them away to pack them up. When we opened them at home much later, only a tiny amount of the leftover shrimp was included and none of the rice.
It felt like there was no owner here who cares about service and quality. Why on a Friday was no owner available? The manager/waiter was not interested in our experience. It was not worth the $60+ price tag.
Bottom line: get takeout and get dumplings.
We got the dandan noodles, stir fried beef with hot peppers, boa buns, soup dumplings, and hot and sour soup.
I would post pictures but we actually ate it all within an hour of getting home.
Can’t wait to try again!!!
