This continues to be my favorite place in the food court. The food is always fresh. You can’t go wrong with what you get. The curry is the best one out of all the places in the food court. The Udon noodles are always perfectly cooked. They offer fresh tempura flakes, green onion, ginger, sauces, and seasonings on the side as well. Highly recommend trying! Staff are always kind and efficient.

Finally found my go-to udon spot in Chicago! The udon noodles have that perfect ‘mochi-mochi’ chew, firm but supple. I tried the Kake Udon, and the broth was incredibly clean with a deep umami finish. It’s a cozy, unassuming space that feels like a warm hug on a windy Chicago day.

Have eaten mugimaru once a week for about a year now and am extremely disappointed with the food I received today. My noodles were FULL of hair! I have a high tolerance for finding a piece or two of hair in my food from time to time, but I am disgusted with how much hair was in my soup. I tried calling the store 3 times to resolve this without leaving a bad review on my favorite noodle place, but this is not okay.

We had a great time here! Tried the chicken and beef udon — both were super tasty and comforting. The tempura shrimp were crispy and delicious. The green beans were okay, but the onion tempura wasn’t our favorite — it felt a bit too raw inside. Still, we really enjoyed the meal overall and would happily come back!

We had a quick lunch here! This is in the food court of Mitsuwa Market! Service was quick! I ordered the beef udon regular bowl and 5 mins later, I received my order! They had a lot of choices of different tempura items that you can choose from, I chose the green beans tempura, it was ok, cause it was cold and tempura you really need it hot!

I got the #2, large, then grabbed 2 shrimp tempura, karaage and lotus tempura.
The tempura was decent, lost some of the crunchiness but it was still good. Now, the Udon could use a lot of work. The broth was lukewarm, which contributed to the downfall of the dish. If they served the broth hot, cooked the noodles in a hot water – the experience might been different.

Love that there is a selection of tempura that you can pick and choose as you please without required to buy a bowl of udon. This serves us well as we like to try different things in the food court but still want a few tempura.
Service. Quick and friendly.
Food. Great tempura and a variety of sauces to match, quick you can select on the side.

Got the kane udon with the onion, sweet potato, and shrimp tempura. You first get your udon (picking either regular or large size), and then pick out from the variety of different tempuras that they have, and then top your udon with the flakes and green onion. The taste was pretty good, not the best I’ve had but decent. The total was around $11.
