This colorful counter-serve spot with a large patio is known for its seasonal Mexican street fare.

Tamale Boy cannot be beat. The food is NEXT LEVEL DELICIOUS. I highly recommend this fine establishment for their incredible food and drinks. The Tamarind Whiskey Sour is unmatched, it’s perfectly balanced. The chips, salsa and guacamole were fresh and tasty. The vibe is fun, I especially enjoyed the colorful mural!

My family went there to eat tamales and nachos. It was very delicious! The Fritos fried tamale, eggs, black bean dish was my favorite. We did try the new cafe tamale dessert and it was pretty good. My sisters also had the hibiscus drink, it was yummy.
The service was amazing, quick and friendly. We’re definitely coming back whenever we visit.

Great tasting Tamales! They’re all delicious, try them all and find your favorite.
Staff was very accommodating, there weren’t any seats left in the courtyard so they seated us inside. I wish the place was warmer so it’s cozy, I was cold in there. But over all, this place is a must try and will come back again and again!

Ordered Nachos — just be sure to skip the jalapeños (way too hot). Lots of food, took home 3 plastic containers. There are a few seats indoors, but mostly you eat outside on picnic tables; have to get your own water and take-home containers — so do that before they bring your order (because of flies). They close @ 9pm, 8pm on Sundays. Possibly the best Mexican food in NE Portland.

We’ve been here many times and love it. The last time was for brunch. I don’t remember what my dish was called but the description said it was “like a Mexican lasagna.” It was incredible. Their guac and chips are well worth the price, you just better really like guac. You order at the counter, find a seat in their heated patio, and they bring it out to you. Really friendly, fun place. Great for kids and dogs. Tables are benches. Depending on how busy it is? Wheelchair space at tables could be tricky. Portions are large.

Veg. Food Review: Bland Food. That’s pretty much how I sum it up. When I say bland I don’t mean hot. I mean flavors. There was hardly any flavor in the burrito bowl. Not was the salsa and chips any good. So popular but definitely different than what I ate long time ago. Alas. It looked good for sure. Service was lovely.

I live 5 houses from here so I’ve tried a LOT of things and loved everything. But one thing I really wanted to give a special shout out for was brunch! Great covered and open outdoor seating and the brunch menu is insanely good. They brought back brunch after 3 years of not having it and it is amazing. The picture below was literally $10 for a hefty 3 egg meal that was probably one of the best meals I’ve had in Portland so far. Don’t sleep on brunch here!!!!

The Esquites is highly salty. I could not get to appreciate the other flavors. They have reduced the size of the tamales but the price remains the same. Plus their customer service is lacking, which unfortunately seems to be the trend in Portland. Not worth the price for the quality and taste of the food.

We came upon this little spot when we couldn’t dine in at another place close by. They had only outdoor seating at the time and the weather was nice. The patio was pretty neat and had several wooden benches. When we ordered, we had questions about the food and the guy taking our order didn’t seem to be much help. We ordered the burrito bowl with chicken and al pastor. The food came out hot and tasty. The chips and salsa we ordered was fine. The salsa didn’t have much flavor and we wished we got the pico de gallo with the chips because it was really good on the bowl. Two Mexican cokes to top off the meal. The food was good, but pricey for what you get.

Food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared and the drinks are great! Service was friendly and quick. I also love that this is a family friendly spot-they keep games, crayons and paper, and look! Someone who prepared our food even left my kid a smiley face made of crema! Thank you!
