This is a fantastic French bakery! The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and there’s plenty of seating both inside and outside, which makes it a great spot to relax and enjoy your food.
They have tons of options, from sweet treats to savory items, and they even bake their own fresh bread. I ordered the croissant sandwich, and it was incredibly flaky and delicious. I also tried a French dessert that was recommended to me—something I hadn’t had before—and it was so good!
They’re also happy to warm items up for you, which is a nice touch.
Today was my first time. I ordered a vanilla cappuccino, a brie fold over, and vanilla eclair for my snack while I read my book. The pastries are so buttery and flaky to perfection. I decided to order croissants, a baguette, and another eclair for later. Well, much to my surprise, one of my dogs decided to taste test the entire loaf before I did.
I called La Brioche but hung up after a few rings. The owner promptly called me back. I inquired if she had anymore baguettes left and she said yes. I drove all the way from Chesapeake. As soon as I walked in, I noticed there weren’t anymore left. Turns out, the owner set it aside for me as soon as I called.
To summarize, not only are the food and drinks authentic, the Parisian owners are incredibly kind and provide amazing service.
I can’t wait to come back and try more treats!
The atmosphere is cozy, charming, and impeccably clean. It’s the perfect place for a quiet morning coffee or a weekend treat. What truly sets them apart, though, is the quality of the baking. The brioche itself is transcendent—airy, perfectly golden, and so unbelievably soft it melts in your mouth. Don’t even get me started on the pastries! The almond croissant is a masterpiece of flaky layers and rich filling, and the seasonal tarts are always fresh, vibrant, and expertly balanced. Their coffee, too, is the perfect complement, strong and smooth. The service is warm, efficient, and genuinely welcoming, making every visit a pleasure. Whether you’re grabbing a loaf to take home or settling in for a luxurious breakfast, the staff treat you like a regular. If you live in or are visiting the Norfolk area, La Brioche is an absolute must-try. Come for the pastries, stay for the atmosphere, and leave with a smile. Five stars, hands down!
The welcoming staff, with their marvelous French accented greetings set the tone. The day I visited, the 2 ladies’ bright eyed and kind smiles engulfed my many questions and were never impatient with my poor hearing— didn’t even have to mention it.
After ordering to go, one invited me to enjoy my chicken salad baguette and espresso upstairs. I had no idea there was a back staircase leading to a charming, rather shabby and mismatched, exactly what you want for that Old World feel. Many chairs have been reupholstered and are surprisingly comfortable for a wooden chair.
The chicken salad is a bit spare by American standards, but the star is the baguette. The romaine and tomato were perfectly fresh and a great compliment.
I foresee many return visits, there is SO much to sample.
