Never going back. Go to Bellotti down the street for better pasta
For the night they had a mandatory pre fixe menu, $132 per person with 2 fixed courses of appetizers, followed by 2 entrees you choose, and a dessert you split.
After we were seated, our server was quick to take our order and the first three courses came out within 25 minutes. The lasagna my wife had (first course after appetizers) came out cold, pizza I had seemed burnt and still under cooked/flimsy, like the oven temp was too high. Despite this, still both fairly tasty dishes I should note.
This is where the dinner started to fall apart. By this point the rest of the restaurant had filled up. Someone came by to box our pizza and clean the table. Our server came to put down new silverware and then left for the next 30 minutes. When she came back she took off our silverware and put down dessert spoons, which we had to point out to her we hadn’t had our primary course yet. She apologized and then disappeared for another 15 minutes. At this point it was approaching 90 minutes into the dinner and about an hour since we had our last course. We had other plans for the night so we told the waitress to just box our remaining courses and take the check. She was kind and apologized for the night, but clearly the kitchen was very backed up.
The couple next to us got their first appetizer and from what we saw nothing after that. The other couple who sat two tables down when we did, also never received their mains.
Our final check of two diners, one drink, came out to about $350. When they got around to boxing and taking care of the check we were about an hour and 45 minutes into the dinner. To top it all off, once we got home we noticed they left out the dessert. Get that it’s Valentine’s Day and you should expect restaurants to be slammed, but really they needed to do a better job of managing the reservations and seating walk-ins especially if they aren’t able to turn tables at that capacity. Really ruined the night for us and the others around us.
Shared a seasonal salad that was OK. Maybe 70 cents of ingredients for $17. I get it; and it felt quite uninspired.
Also shared Arancini. Don’t order this often but was feeling indulgent. It had a very dry texture, was warm, but not hot, and was notably under-seasoned. The mayo plus spicy pepper was really basic.
Pork chop looked nice but was over cooked by any modern standard. By a lot. Likely 165f plus for the core temp. Tough to cut and chew. Managed to eat less than half. The carrots were a bit over charred but probably the best food of the $150 night out.
Pasta was undercooked and was more than al dente. Served up on a chipped plate.
We sorta trudged through it all.
Service was scant and dismissive. The first check in was very late in the meal after we stopped eating and with all of the feedback, there was just a shameful ‘sorry’ and a quick drop off of the check.
A neighbor table had a complaint on the halibut being dry and the waiter tried to say it can be like that because it’s not a fatty fish. Then came back and said ‘chef said it was overcooked.” No one ever came back to follow up with us about the feedback mentioned above. I wondered if there was a chef in the kitchen…
One meal is not a complete view of a restaurant; we’ve enjoyed several meals here before and hope to again at some point. Maybe not on a Sunday. Several things off in one night is a lot especially at high prices.
Made a reservation day of, for 2 at 9:15 for the chefs counter. Parking around the area is hit or miss, so plan ahead.
Check in was fine, and in no time we were seated.
Champagne and a whiskey to start.. We also started with some friend olives. Topped with a little lemon and
We opted for one of their salads.. I can’t remember which, but it came with pomegranate and pears? Wasn’t my favorite, nor my ladies, but we still ate the whole thing. The crispy brussel sprouts came out perfect!
We got one of their pizzas.. The Vesuivo. Awesome (as always) with just the right amount spice. Add some of their house made chili oil, and you’re set their pizzas are especially unique, due to the fact that you cut it with scissors! So unique and special, kinda makes the meal in my opinion.
We also got a pizza To go, the Margherita, which was awesome later that evening and the next day, as a snack.
No dessert for us this time.
There is a bar area which you can sit which we have never done but we have sat in the main dining area and at the bar dining area. Apparently, there is also a dark dining area in the back, which I was not aware of, but people don’t want to sit there. They also added a few Parklet tables since the pandemic.
We often order pizza from here to take to the Irish pub next-door. Sometimes they automatically delivered to us there.
We have also attended the feast of the seven fishes for Christmas Eve.
