Vibrant cafe/bakery serving soup, salads & sandwiches plus sweets in relaxed surrounds.

We had the New England clam chowder soup and quiches, which were ok. The soup came with some bread but it wasn’t the freshest. Dessert was better. Overall, I would come back if in the area.

Diners beware. I really want to like this place. I’ve been multiple times and unfortunately the food was bland every time, nothing stood out. My last visit I ordered an omelette only to be served the egg breakfast. Toast came out burnt, bacon was burnt.
Strangely a good handful of reviews use the same keywords and are written very similarly
Will back, just hoping for the experience I’ve always desired from this place.

I’ve never been here, I’ve always pass this place all the time. But now thst I’m inside of this establishment. WOW! Must come!! They have pastries, coffee, sandwiches, quiche, salads, soups, and serve breakfast. Soda, water, cold or hot tea. Man, I wished I knew before I would’ve became a regular, I’m just visiting. They play soft music. Jazz, contemporary music. Pretty quiet. No long lines to wait. They serve the food while you sit & wait. You can call in an order. Sorry, Sundays & Mondays are closed. All the pastries/ bread are made fresh everyday.

Everything here is excellent. The soup of the day is always soo good. From the food to the service. John and Chelle have been serving excellence for years. Through the good times and the bad in Austin. One of the few good ones still around. I have been a customer since I moved here in 2002. I will be until I’m gone.

Stopped by this local restaurant for lunch. Everything is from scratch. We ordered two French onion soups and split a Union sandwich. We met the owner, John. We told him it was our first time. He brought out samples of 2 soups ( cream chicken and clam chowder), chili and their sour bread. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. We’ll be back soon. Need to support good, local bizs.

Best way to describe this place is a warm hug.
I think the nicest people in the world work here. They make delicious soups and salads. If you’re lucky enough to be there when they have a the asparagus soup or the pumpkin chocolate chip muffin they will change your life.
Shout out to Tara and Whitney!

ordered the ham, egg and cheese sandwich and the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. in my opinion the egg and bacon are way overcooked. the egg is made omelette style and it’s completely browned on the outside killing the flavor. the bacon was cooked so much it became almost hard to eat. staff was nice and I like the atmosphere but I wouldn’t go back for the food.

Staff is nice and I like the vibes. Cozy. Good customer flow but not too too packed. Think the food is mid and edible but could be improved. More sauces. More flavor. Slightly less dense sourdough. Cup of soup is slightly overpriced at over $7. Whole loaves of breads are cheap and priced well. Wish they had a different side than just the chips. Wish they did pickles. I wish they would use a different deli meat provider. Don’t think places should still carry Boar’s Head after the scandal last year where the company got in trouble for severe sanitation failures, including mold, pests, and product residue.

We stopped into San Francisco Bakery and Café, and it was hands down the best lunch we’ve had in a long time! The menu is full of fresh, scratch-made items, and it really shows in the flavor. We tried the chicken and broccoli quiche with a Caesar salad, the Santa Cruz chicken sandwich, and the clam chowder—every bite was incredible. The staff was friendly and personable, making the experience even better with great conversations.
We’re already looking forward to our next visit and trying the cream of asparagus soup, which we’ve heard is a must. Oh, and don’t skip the cheese danishes—they’re absolutely to die for! Highly recommend this gem if you’re in the area.
