We’ve been traveling to Black Mountain and Asheville since 2018 and Tayloe’s has always been a stop since we found it back in 2018. The vibe was always great and the Happy Hour oysters brought in a fun crowd, no matter what day you stopped in. The owners are Alabama fans and the bar area shows that passion. Nearly every time we have stopped in, the owner was at the bar and talking with customers and employees. We stopped in this week and it was all a bit different. The vibe was much different – quieter and missing the Happy Hour crowd. Owner and his wife were at the bar but not engaging at all. Happy Hour oysters were gone – waitress said because of COVID but we stopped in during the summer of 2020 and they were still running Happy Hour. Ultimately, if that’s what needs done to stay afloat – anyone could understand it. Food wasn’t bad… my shrimp po-boy was excellent and her Steak Diane was good – but not great. Bread and butter are fantastic and the watermelon and blackberry salad was amazing. Oysters were good as always! Not that we won’t come back and stop again on our next visit but not sure we’ll be as excited to as we always were! The picture of the sign was from this week and the group picture was from a few years back in 2019.

I went in for the raw oysters and they were great! Then I tried a meal and it was pretty good. The service was a little hard to get somebody to attend to me. But I think it was because it was right at closing time and even after hours when I got done eating. But they were very nice and did not run me off and I will go back again!

This was a solid dinner spot with excellent oysters. We enjoyed the oysters Mel grilled with parmesan, lemon & breadcrumbs. The dinner on the otherhand, was just OK. The portions were a bit on the small side, especially considering the price. $38 for the redfish for about a 5 oz filet over 1/2 C of cheese grits…No vegetable and missing the mark a bit on flavor. My husband had $28 cajun seafood linguini which also lacked some seasoning. It had a fair amount of crawfish tails and Shrimp but again, for the price I would have expected a larger portion. The bread and compound butter to start the meal was delicious. We would go again but might stick to the Oyster Bar and skip the dinner menu. Service was kind and checked in regularly on our needs. Looks like a great drink menu, as well.

We’ve been coming here for years, but the trip we made a few weeks ago might be our last. This is the oyster bar side of the restaurant. So, oysters are the main attraction. In the past, the shucker has always put them on a bed of ice, which is aesthetically pleasing, but the more important part is it keeps the oysters cold and the liquor (oyster juice) in the level oyster cup. The young shucker they had the last time, maybe 16-ish?, shucked the oysters and tossed them in the 2-inch deep metal plate on top of each other. All the liquor poured out into the plate. They also were grainy and had lots of shell. Terrible oyster technique. We mentioned something about it and he said, “Oh, that’s neat, never heard of doing it like that, but I’ll tell the kitchen.” The waitress said their ice machine couldn’t keep up with the heat. Teach your shucker how to serve oysters and if you don’t have an ice machine that works, get a new one. It shouldn’t be difficult at the prices you charge. And that wouldn’t be a problem if the quality was reflective of said prices. Doubtful we’ll go back and no longer recommend to our out of town family and friends. Sad, because it used to be a stellar oyster bar.

Hands down, unbeatable! The menu is incredible. While there’s an obvious lean towards fresh seafood, there is something for everyone. The atmosphere reminds me of the laid back vibe you would get in Charleston as you can tell it’s not only a place for visitors, but the place that locals frequent. Service is very attentive while not overly so. Fantastic list of wines and cocktails. As a local, I can’t believe that I hadn’t gone sooner. I’ll definitely be one of those that frequent!

Went for oysters and very disappointed. The shucker poured the juice out of shell so the VA points tasted bland. Had a few shell fragments which I was fine with. Only wish I’d had the full experience for 28.00 per dozen. Gumbo was delicious.

Always excellent service and food, & we’ve never been disappointed with Tayloe’s. Fried or raw – oysters are fresh & wonderful. Burger is fantastic. Redfish Hal & gumbo are so good! Truly, you can’t go wrong & we eat there every time we’re in town.

Tayloe’s Oyster Bar is a great place. We discovered it by accident while looking for a place to get a cocktail after dinner. Trailhead was where we went first, but it was extremely crowded and it appeared to only have beer. Foothills was closed as it seems to be often when we try to go there. We just happened to notice Tayloe’s and went in. The service was excellent and the bartender was extremely nice. The top shelf margaritas and the plate of mussels were definitely excellent too. The atmosphere and decor is very impressive. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of Tayloe’s. Even the restroom was possibly the cleanest of any restaurant ones I’ve been in. We will most definitely go back for dinner next time as well as cocktails. It is connected and joined to a restaurant named Que Sera which I assume is where the food is made. It looks nice too. I really like the ambience of Tayloe’s. I highly recommend this place!
