This simple, elegant restaurant offers elevated takes on traditional Italian cuisine.

Would give this restaurant 10 stars if we could! This is true fine dining in Montclair with seasonal specials that will blow your mind, top notch service, and an elegant atmosphere to enjoy a fantastic meal. Chef Logan and Mary have something truly special, some of the best pasta dishes (creative and thoughtful) that we’ve ever had! Steak is phenomenal here and one of the best you will find in the area. Wow, what a meal – thank you so much!

The way Italian culture and flavors are reimagined here feels thoughtful and exciting. Each dish tells its own story and reflects real passion for food. Gioia Mia delivers far more than a meal, it offers an experience worth coming back for again and again.

Gioia Mia – Montclair, NJ
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Food:
Polenta Fried Calamari
• Super crispy and light — a great twist on a classic.
• The pepperoncini added the perfect pop of heat.
• Loved dipping it in the rose marina sauce with a squeeze of lemon!
Green Garlic Rigatoni
• A creative and flavorful pasta dish!
• Surprisingly generous amount of fennel sausage.
• The pesto and fried garlic combo really worked.
Duck & Taleggio Triangoli
• Absolutely delicious — we were sad when it was gone!
• Rich, velvety foie butter sauce and perfectly cooked duck.
• One of those dishes you dream about later.
My boyfriend and I came here for a late-night date while staying in Montclair to tour apartments for our first place together. The restaurant was quiet and cozy — perfect for an intimate evening. It seems like they intentionally keep things a bit more exclusive, which we appreciated.
They served homemade focaccia with olive oil to start, and every dish that followed was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. Definitely a great date night spot. I’m already eyeing a few other entrées to try next time!

I’ve been here many times. Food is spectacular… every time. Servers are awesome also, as is the ambiance. Why 4 stars then? Well, the prices are a bit steep and the portions are very small. I don’t understand how normal eaters can possibly be ok here. In order to feel satisfied I think you need to order an Appetizer, pasta dish and an entree. Yes, portions are that small. I have no issues paying premium prices for good food, but I need to leave full. Keep up with the spectacular food, but pleeeeease increase the portions a bit and I’ll be a customer forever!!!

The atmosphere is pleasant, but that’s about where I’d stop. Bread is only brought out when you order the meal, not as a pre-meal app like most “fine dining” restaurants. Additionally, you can’t order your apps, or “small plates,” as they call them before you place your main course meal. If it were a prefix menu, that would be understandable, but with an a la carte menu, you expect to be able to order an appetizer, enjoy it, and then place the main course to help decide what you’d like to eat. Two burgers came slightly undercooked; the duck ravioli was extraordinarily salty and seemed to be drowned in soy sauce. The gnocchi was overcooked and sprinkled with raw rosemary, making you feel like you had grass. Burnt mushrooms mixed in with the regular mushrooms. The ravioli with a brown butter sauce was undercooked. The squid ink pasta was cooked perfectly, and the shrimp was as well. The baked oysters were good as well. If I had a recommendation, I’d say order one dozen (double order as they only sell them in a 1/2 dozen) of the oysters being your wine; enjoy, and leave. Overall, the menu was basic and overdone. Nothing made you feel like it was worth the money and unique or memorable.

From the warm, fresh bread to the final bite of dessert, every dish was a masterpiece. The chef’s attention to flavor, presentation, and creativity shone through in every appetizer and entrée, making for an unforgettable dining experience. We will be back again soon to try other dishes!

I selfishly hate posting these reviews because I am giving away one of my secrets. Montclair has many good BYOB restaurants however, for me, Gioia Mia is one of the best. If you know the Montclair food scene you would understand how tall of a statement this is. Last night I enjoyed the Tuna Crudo, pork belly, & Chicken liver Mousse (a must try) to start. The Wild Boar Garganelli & Bucatini Pasta dishes. The Heritage Pork Chop & Braised Shrot Rib (Special) for mains. All were outstanding. I met Steven, our waiter, who I didn’t recognize, turns out he is new to Gioia Mia, but clearly not new to service he was excellent and his service was top notch. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation you will not be disappointed.

Nice plating and presentation. Dishes didn’t wow me, though.
The crab risotto was just okay, if a bit underwhelming.
The jus of the duck triangoli was quite salty and overpowering. I think the dish could’ve benefited from less of it on the plate. The braised duck inside was nice and tender, at least.
The octopus was enjoyable. The dressed oysters, with what was essentially frozen lemon ice on top, overpowered the salty brine of the oysters.
It was also uncomfortably hot inside. I overhead many guests mentioning it to themselves, and my girlfriend and I were both sweating.
Menu has adventurous ideas but overall didn’t land for me.

I can’t even begin to explain how amazing the food was! I live in the city and was visiting a friend in West Orange and we decided to come try Gioia Mia, which came under new management and owner a year ago apparently. Let me tell you, the food was out of this world! I don’t think I had a better dinner in my whole entire life. They are BYOB, which I didn’t know, but they have a liquor store down the street that delivered my wine in less than 5 minutes of calling it in!!!
The dinner starts with a homemade focaccia that was amazing. We also decided to step out of our shells and ordered the chicken liver mousse. When I tell you my friend would never even think about eating liver, she absolutely loved it!!! It was such a perfect pair with the strawberry rhubarb! The asparagus tabbouleh salad is also something I would have never thought would be in the same dish, and it was delicious! The scallop tiradito – oh my god. The flavors in that was perfection!!!! We then had agnolotti, malfadine, and cavatelli. The cavatelli and malfadine were on point!!! Agnolotti was also very good but out of the 3, it was my least favorite comparing how flavorful everything else was. And to end, we had a hanger steak and the pan seared scallops. The scallops were amazing!!!! And the steak was literally cooked soooooo well and how it was coated in au poivre couldn’t be more perfect.
What a culinary dining experience this was. Can’t wait to come back again!!!!

Fascino is one of my favorite restaurants. I’ve been here for dinner numerous times and they never disappoint. There are so many things to love about this place (ambiance, service, price, creativity) but I think why I love it so much is that they serve just the right portions so that you leave satisfied after an amazingly delicious meal and not just full. Their portions are just the right size and their menu seems to change just enough to keep the consistent delicious plates while still introducing new items. Also, sorry for the mediocre pictures, my wife took them 🙂
