When I came for lunch on a tuesday, the selection at the conveyor belt was huge. They had a bit of everything laid out. I had a few rolls and a few nigiris. They were flavorful. I’d say the taste is pretty standard for sushi. The sushi rice could use a bit more seasoning/vinegar but it’s not bad at all. The things i tried were pretty good. Nothing amazing but i’d say I had a good dining experience.
You can order special items from the touchpad as well. My nigiri took a few minutes (like maybe 3-5 mins?) to arrive but honestly, it wasn’t too bad as there were plenty of other options going around on the belt.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. They were ready to help me out with any questions I had.
Overall, I’d say this was a pretty good sushi restaurant. Definitely won’t cross off my list of to revisit restaurants whenever I visit Serramonte Mall again. If you’re craving some good sushi, give Izumi sushi a try!
Overall this restaurant is better tasting than Kura sushi and underrated.
Avoid hamachi belly special nigiri and uni, not very fresh.
This review is for anyone who cares about cleanliness and hygiene. During our visit, my friends and I were seated where the sushi prep areas were clearly visible. We could see how food was handled, and the same cloth was repeatedly used to wipe staff members’ hands and then used again during food preparation. A knife used to cut sushi was also wiped on that same cloth. To-go orders were packed bare-handed, without gloves. I understand that some sushi places do use bare hands when making sushi, but the staff touched other non-food objects and then touched the sushi. I repeatedly saw a staff member drink from her own water bottle and then touch the sushi without washing her hands after handling her personal item. I have been going to this place for years but had never been seated near the food prep area. I’m glad I did see what happened to the food I ate, because I won’t be coming back. It’s really disappointing to witness this firsthand.
We ordered:
1. Gyozo – As you know, my go-to and this was perfectly cooked and not greasy.
2. Shrimp pops – Super crunchy and flavorful. I was happy that it wasn’t a shrimp tempura but way better. The perfect bite. I wished it was more than 2 pieces.
3. Spicy tuna maki – Fresh and definitely not holding back on the spice.
4. Dragon roll – So flavorful, you can taste all the different items just blend together in the perfect bite.
5. Deep fried California roll – It wasn’t what I expected, but way better. It wasn’t all batter, but you can tell it was lightly fried
6. Beef donburi. – Not your standard beef teriyaki. It was finely chopped like a chashu. It tasted amazing.
7. Chicken karaage – Crunchy but not overly cooked like some places where it’s chewy
Overall, the price wasn’t bad for the portions. I believe it was reasonably priced. I can’t wait to come back and try more items and experience the revolving sushi.
