My wife and I stopped into Catawba Coffee first thing this morning, right when they opened. If you know this place, you know why — it fills up fast. There’s something about walking in early, when the lights are dim, the air still smells like fresh grounds, and the whole shop feels like it’s waking up with you.
The wife ordered an everything bagel (plain) and a small Mayan Mocha with oat milk. I went for the medium Milky Way with coconut milk and a raspberry scone. Everything tasted great, and the drinks were made with care — you can tell they take pride in what they serve.
What I love about this spot is the atmosphere. It’s small, but in that intentional, cozy way. Local art on the walls, soft music, and sometimes they even have live musicians come in and play. You can sit by the window and watch the trains roll by — the tracks are literally right out front, so you do have to be careful crossing, but it adds to the charm of this old-fashioned little town.
And that’s the thing: Catawba Coffee is right within walking distance of Main Street, where Mount Holly really shows off. Concerts on the street, little shops, places to eat, a brewery, JackBeagle’s, salons, churches — the whole “small town with a heartbeat” vibe. You can grab your coffee here and wander right into the rest of the day.
Now, to be honest, our total came to $22.15 for one small coffee, one medium coffee, a bagel, and a scone. It’s definitely on the pricier side. I still gave them five stars because the experience, the atmosphere, and the location make it a special place — but I do think people should know what to expect price-wise.
All in all, it’s a beautiful little spot with a lot of character, and we enjoyed starting our morning there.
I got my usual latte- which was very well made and delicious!
The PB chocolate frappe caught my eye as did the delicious looking muffins which I’ll have to try next time.
I love the decor and vibes of this place.
You can sit outside or in one of the two rooms they have inside.
It would be a great place to get some work or some reading done.
I’ll definitely be back and recommend that you try it out!
Great customer service with knowledgeable staff. The Barista knew her stuff. The Owners put quality and service ahead of all. Food here is great, pastries and sandwiches. It looks like a converted garage studio, turned into a pretty café. With outdoor seating as well as indoors, you can enjoy your treat and then go back for more.
Thin Mint Coffee (LG): Great flavors, although could have used a little more mint.
Almond Croissant: I elected to have mine heated up. This was great, flakey, and tasty. It has enough room on the inside for meat and cheese (I’ll have to ask if they do that).
Overall, a great experience, but it can get busy. I came in when there were three people eating. Now the place is packed. Doesn’t look like it affected their ability to serve though. Very efficient.
They have “Band Nights” too! Come visit and give this place some love. ❤️
Parking is nearby and there are lots of spaces to park. They have a restroom for the customers.
