I tried Pho Lucas once months ago and was disappointed by the very bland chicken pho. The broth literally had no flavor. I decided to give it another try last night as I was told the beef pho is better. We ordered spring rolls and the beef pho for pick up. For the price, none of it was worth it.

Their “regular” size, which I order very often at other pho establishments, should be labeled a small. I have never had such little amounts of meat nor noodles. I always, and I mean always, split my pho in half and save the other half for the following day as the portions are typically big. However, the entire portion from Pho Lucas was half the size of other phos I’ve gotten at other places. The noodles fit in the palm of my hand and there was only 2 pieces of brisket and 2 tiny pieces of rare eye round. The taste of the broth was just okay.

I love fresh spring rolls and we ordered 4 so we could each have 2. It only came with 1 container of peanut sauce, you have to pay for extra even though you are already paying for more spring rolls. I didn’t even eat my second one. The spring rolls were either poorly wrapped or they skimped on the rice paper because when we opened the lid, the center of the roll was busted open. Not to mention they were massively packed with mostly lettuce with one thin slice of meat and 1 single shrimp that was thinly sliced. Again, I’ve never had spring rolls with that much lettuce (the cheapest ingredient). The peanut sauce had some spicy sauce added to it (not mentioned on the menu) which took away from the peanut flavor I love so much.

Overall, it’s not worth the hype in my opinion. And definitely does not deliver on authentic tasting pho. I’m not sure if this is an American take on pho or some type of fusion but just wasn’t what we were looking for.

I used to love this place but ever since they got new management the pho has not been good. Second time going since they got new management. Last time the pho broth was inedible. This time the Pho broth was oily and bland. And green tinted…..? Such a bummer.

One of the top Vietnamese in Richmond. the food is pretty authentic. it might be hard to find parking becasue it’s near the campus on Cary st.

The chicken wing app comes in four pieces , good flavor but it would be great if they have some flavor options to add on such as spicy. the combination pho has good amount of meat and flavor is really good. if you are hungry you can get the big bowl but i think standard bowl is enough for one person if you order appetizers .
Service is great. Our waitress is fast and super friendly, the space isn’t big. It gets busy during lunch time.

I really like this place. Food is really good. Love the vegan pho

Buuuuut I’m really tired of restaurants charging the vegan tax on vegan options. The vegan bowl is the same price as the beef bowl? Beef is at all time high, up nearly 20% last year, due to historically low cattle population in the last 75 years. Chicken is $1 cheaper than the tofu option.

Literally both of those animals eat soy…and my option is more expensive. All these Richmond restaurants, pretending to be woke but then profiting off people trying to make the world a better place.

Normally my husband and I love making the 40 minute trip just for the pho and service but today was not it. The waitress with the long black hair completely ignored us even after making eye contact with me several times. It wasn’t until a young gentleman came that we received service. I believe his name was James, if not I apologize. His service was great. The food was not as great as we’re used to. My husband’s tea was unflavored. The tea bags were in the pot of hot water but there was just no flavor. We got our usual, the all beef cuts combo. Upon the arrival the both bowls weren’t hot at all. They were a mediocre warm. By thr time James got back to our table it had been some time as it seems he was bussing tables, making drinks, and serving food. Tables went untouched by the other waitress and empty tables just sat with dirty dishes. The times we’ve come it had always seemed like the staff was working as a unit but not today. I think it will be a while before we return. Especially since my husband felt nauseous after we left the quality isn’t what it used to be for us.

Cool little spot in Carytown. The service was very good. I had two spring rolls, a vermicelli bowl & glass of water. Both were full of fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. I wish the vermicelli bowl had come with a bit more of the sauce to pour on it; it was pretty dry & could have used the additional flavor. I think a wedge of lemon or lime would also have been a good addition to boost the flavor. My tab with tip came to over $30 which is pretty steep for what I got. I would’ve been better off ordering four spring rolls, which are a pretty good deal for $10, and skipped the vermicelli bowl.

Excellent food with intention and execution behind every dish that makes the belly happy. Multiple VEGAN options that are clearly indicated. Mocktails that are pretty & delicious that make you feel included even if not consuming alcohol. Atmosphere is always fantastic and welcoming. Staff is kind, consistent, and treat you with attentive appreciation. Dom & Lucie, the owners, are so personable and really care about the employees, customers, & community. Love this place 10/10 would recommend.

This place is on point. Imperial rolls were freshly fried and delicious. Pho broth was savory. Eye round cuts of meat were not fatty. Spice bomb was a nice addition. The regular 24oz size was filing. Luca Banh mi sandwich was well done with the side of tasty dipping broth. Bread was fresh. Large portion of fries. Crispy but a little too salty. I love thai tea, so the Thai Chata was a great concoction. Small cozy atmosphere with chill vibes and chill music in the background. Definitely try this place out while in Carytown if you like Vietnamese cuisine.

We have fantastic Vietnamese food in the RVA area. If Pho Luca hasn’t been on your list yet get your hind parts there asap! Great flavors and what a great experience with staff and service. Busy? Yes. A bit of a wait on food? Just a bit. Polite, attentive and warm friendly service? Absolutely!
Good times and I’ll be back!

Didn’t make it much past the door, was looking to try the Pho. It looked half-full of people, cute little bar. The bartender came out to seat us, but instead gave us the “If you don’t have reservations, we don’t have a table for you.”

Maybe put something about that on the window or website on those nights, because it did not look busy, there were plenty of tables, and this place does NOT look like a reservation type restaurant at all. It looks like a bar with tables.

Needless to say, I don’t need to try the pho here or any other dishes here. The turn-away was so good that I don’t even want to bother with this little hole in the wall.

Zorch’s next door was a lot nicer.
