This was by far the most unpleasant experience I have ever had at Steak ‘ Shake. Granted they are usually understaffed and slow, but tonight takes the cake. The workers, well, the one worker tried his best, but it was just bad service all around. There were no clean tables, and when he did “wipe” a table off for us, we had to finish the job ourselves. Then, we had to wait for a young lady to finally come take our order after being seated for 20 minutes. Nevermind it took an additional 30 minutes for two of us to get our INCORRECT orders. Oh, I forgot to mention I could clearly see our food sitting in the window area waiting to brought out. I don’t fault the two workers though. The manager literally stood around looking. He took the one guy that was trying to help to make him dump the trash. It just seemed backwards to me. Why not take our orders, get the tables cleared, and then worry about the trash? Anyway, I can possibly get over all of that. It happens, right? What I cannot ignore is the manager (he eventually did jump in) handling folks food while on the phone. I took a video of it, because it was too ridiculous not to. Not only was he touching his phone, he was literally cooking and plating food while on the phone. Not good, right? Well, he served customers while still on the phone. Where is the Board of Health when you need them? I’d like to see his Sanitation License. He definitely missed something in class.

Hate to do this as I understand the impact reviews can have. Driving home at 4am I see Steak and Shake and had to go. Grabbed 2 Fresco Melts, my favorite for decades. Get home to find it barely having any special sauce and softly, barely toasted.. I get it, it’s 4am.. But still, maybe re-train.

Got up and left. No one came over to help me after I was seated, I sat there and waited and waited until I heard the other customers complaining about that they haven’t received their food yet. Absolutely terrible service, must be management.

Was promptly seated where the sun would be shining directly in our faces. Asked nicely to be moved and was given a choice of two booths. We chose one and the never saw a server at our table again. We think he was the only person employed in the entire store. After about 10 minutes or so,we got up and left. It wasn’t busy but that’s no excuse to have only 1 employee there to take orders, prepare food and checkout diners as they leave. Absolutely disgusted with our experience here…totally not the normal service we see back home in KY.

Normally I like Steak & Shake. I don’t expect much. This one though has been consistently bad for a while. The last time I went I was with my kids. There were a lot of families with kids in fact there, most of them left due to the terrible service. We stayed, because we had already ordered and had waited an hour we figured they could not be any later. They were.
The food was certainly nothing to brag about. I don’t expect a lot here, but even this failed to meet my already low expectations. Frankly I am not sure how they have remained in business.

Normally this is A very busy place. And the manager there. does the best she can. Being short-staffed. On most the nights that she’s on shift. I’ve been here on several occasions. And it’s all been perfectly well. My only objection is. When it’s all young people on the staff. It takes much too long to get service. Or even to refill your drink. I had been sitting there for more than 20 minutes. Just to be seated. And then ate my meal with no napkins. Could not refill my drink. And was waiting on my order. Since what had been plated before me. was definitely not. what I asked for. Other then that. Fine most if the time.
I would suggest you just avoid the nights. That it’s nothing but young people on shift..

I’ve never been treated so rudely.
Walked in (party of four) and server asked if we wanted breakfast or lunch menus. Yelled at us (along the lines of “breakfast or lunch, make up your mind!”) when we paused to discuss. Yelled at us again when one of the party asked to substitute scrambled eggs in place of fried eggs (which can’t be that hard, come on). In both cases, this was not “slightly impatient with mildly raised voice”, this was “shouting at customers”. Seriously, I would use that tone of voice with someone I found stealing from me, not with paying customers. There were four other people in the restaurant, so it’s not like this server was under a lot of stress.
First time in eight years I’ve left less than a 15% tip at a restaurant. Aside from that, the food was good and the service was fast. Prices were reasonable and the restaurant was clean. If they got some decent employees I would eat there again.

Waited in the drive thru for about 28 minutes and saw everyone behind me get there food before me while they had me pulled up for a double with cheese meal. I was there from 11:54 to 12:22 and when I finally asked what was taking so long (and place was pretty empty on the inside) I was told that there was an issue with the system. Because I didn’t see the bag with the burger in it that she had opened up and was probably wondering why it’s there or see the system work perfectly fine for the woman who ordered right after me or the man who arrived ten minutes after I did leave after her. After I asked for a refund she gave it to me in cash for some reason (I paid with my card) and couldn’t even give me a receipt when I asked saying their system doesn’t print out return receipts. Didn’t even apologize for the wait or offer anything, but was sure to tell me to just come inside next time if it’s taking too long. Even giving that customer service I just had to experience one star is letting them get away with murder.

The bad reviews are true. Avoid this place, especially since there’s other Steak ‘n Shakes around the area. We waited close to 40 minutes at 2:00am for our order. There was only one other customer ahead, and one more showed up during our wait. Everyone was mad. The other customers gave up and left empty-handed (the poor guy ahead of us, who was there BEFORE we arrived, must’ve been there at least 45 minutes before walking away).
During this time the staff seemed to be hiding out back to avoid working our order. There seemed to be some debate among the staff as to who was responsible for making our order. This boiled over until we were sure we were witnessing a race war of sorts in the Steak n’ Shake kitchen.
We finally received our order, but as we drove away we all feared that our food might not be safe to eat, fearing what the staff may have done to it. Watching them argue and avoid making our order put this fear into us.
Back at the hotel we discovered 2 of the six burgers and 1 fries missing 🙁 We didn’t go back – never will.

The server was horrible. For a Sunday evening, there was only a couple booths that were being used by patrons. I ordered a shake and a Frisco melt with bacon. The frisco melt came out without any bacon and, the shake was finally served to me after I was almost done eating my meal. I also told the server prior to ordering that I might order more food so hold the check. The server never once came by to ask how the food was and if I would like to order more food. He did not even deliver the check. After 20 minutes of waiting around after eating my meal, I got up and went to the front counter to pay my bill. I waited at the front counter for about 5 minutes for someone to come up and help me cash out. Then, I had to wait for our waiter to print out the bill. Absolutely horrible service. Avoid this place like the plague.
