We recently ordered from Amakara Japan and were extremely impressed. We ordered nine different sushi rolls and maki, and everything was fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care. The order came with plenty of soya sauce and wasabi, which was appreciated, and everyone enjoyed every roll.
Whether you’re looking for takeout or planning to dine in, I would highly recommend this restaurant. Great quality, great taste, and a fantastic overall experience.

Hidden local gem we found by chance! Food was delicious and large portion sizes for the price! Staff were very friendly – we were visiting from out of town and they gave us some great sightseeing recommendations. Would definitely visit again!

I was getting my tires changed across the street, and this place got noticed. So, instead of going to our regular spot in St. Kits, we walked across the road to here. The food was good, nothing special, but I did appreciate the interior. However, the service as many other complained was awkward, and slow. There was two other tables in the restaurant at 1pm, and it took way too long to simply take our order, and even longer to receive our food. There was two tables in house, and it didn’t seem any takeout was going through, so I couldn’t imagine what it would be like if it was actually busy. Overall, it was acceptable, but I’ll likely go elsewhere in the future.

The sashimi very good, food was all well prepared and large portions. But the table we sat at had a faint urine smell and little bowls of plain vermicelli noodles that were microwaved were an odd choice to offer at the beginning.

We ordered the Yaki Udon, Vegetable Tempura, Spicy Pumpkin, Edaname, and 3 sushi (2 vegetarian).
There wete only two tables and the service was very slow, it took out server about 10 minutes to notice we were even there.
and the restaurant was freezing cold!
(That being said there were a few take out orders and I think she may have been helping in the kitchen aswell…or sheltering from the cold…but hey …if you are cold, SO ARE WE!!!)

Amakara Japan is probably the best sushi restaurant I’ve been to in a long time. The location is really small and cozy. I ordered the rainbow roll and it was presented really well. It was super tasty. I also loved the mochi ice cream. The staff was really friendly too. I’m definitely coming back!

This is a nice cozy Japanese restaurant with high quality food. The bento box I ordered was great value and very filling. The nice older lady who served us was very sweet and polite and always had a smile on her face. Would highly recommend this place if you’re in the mood for good Japanese food.

This was our first time here. We read reviews and had a look at the menu and chose this over East, the standard AYCE place. Great decision! This is a quaintly charming spot with great authentic Japanese dishes and fresh fish! The staff is as wonderful as the flavour of the dishes. Everything was hot and fresh and honestly the prices are very reasonable. I think my favourite thing was the Amakara steak appetizer, the garlic soy dipping sauce was out of this world! Give this small family run restaraunt a visit and you’ll be impressed!

I have had takeout about 10 times here. This time I decided to eat in. Very cute little place with enough room to sit about 30 people. The food and service is always good.
I do wish they had a few more vegan options but there’s enough to enjoy.
You do have to explore the menu to find what is vegan and I usually order sushi with mushrooms, sweet potato or avocado. The miso soup is good.
Parking is limited on-site with only about three spots, but the restaurant is within walking distance of downtown St. Catharines where ample parking is available.
