Had been 6+ months since my last visit. Food had always been good, especially the fried chicken. Went today at 11:30am. Really disappointed, like its gone downhill on the food.. Fried chicken was Tough, like cooked hours before or leftovers, some very odd potato casserole that simply wasnt good. The gizzards were dried, not warm at all..cooked hours before? Food..not worth it. Service was good though. Unfortunate… wont return.

Awesome all you can eat back home buffet lunch and dinner… so good it will make you jump back and kiss yourself for coming. Great BBQ, country fixings and comfort food. Mickey is one of the best waitresses in the business and really took care of us. Met Patty, wonderful and very kind person, took time to come out of the kitchen to speak to us. McDonald’s will cost you more for lunch and you’ll be hungry again in just a few hours. And you can’t get a beer or wine at McDonald’s… Big plus plenty of free parking with huge live oaks on the property.

Back Home BBQ in Murrells Inlet is a true hidden treasure! We were so impressed by their buffet, which had something for everyone, and every single dish was delicious. The spread included perfectly seasoned fried shrimp, crispy flounder, juicy fried chicken, and even frog legs, all cooked to golden perfection. The seafood was fresh and flavorful, and the chicken was some of the best we’ve had anywhere.
The salad bar was fresh and well-stocked, and the dessert table was the perfect sweet finish, a little taste of homemade comfort in every bite. Everything was hot, fresh, and replenished constantly, which made the whole meal such a pleasant experience.
I had never had pineapple cobbler before and it was SO good!
The staff were friendly, welcoming, and made us feel right at home, just like dining with family. We came in with a wheelchair bound person and one person with a walker and the staff were so helpful to us! Sat us close to the buffet and were really accommodating. Between the warm atmosphere, great service, and the huge variety of tasty food, Back Home BBQ has easily become one of our favorite spots in Murrells Inlet. We’ll definitely be back again soon!

Absolutely disgusting — not worth the money or the time.
Calling this place a BBQ buffet is a stretch. The only “BBQ” items were pulled pork and ribs. Pulled pork drowned in an eye-watering amount of vinegar that completely masked flavor. The meat wasn’t tender — it was mushy, like it had been sitting in liquid far too long.
Everything else on the buffet tasted either painfully bland or aggressively salty. Sysco “mass-produced food service”. Nothing tasted fresh or homemade. It felt like pre-made food that had been reheated and left to suffer under heat lamps.
The chicken bog was revolting — crunchy, dried out rice paired with sausage so tough and rubbery it was like chewing leather.
Overall, the food was unappetizing, poorly executed, and honestly hard to eat.
This meal wasn’t just disappointing — it was a waste of money and time. I wouldn’t return, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for real BBQ or even a decent buffet.

My husband, our friend , & I went for a late lunch around 3:00 pm on Saturday Jan. 17, 2026 . This was our second time eating here . The first time that we went it was great . This second time eating here will be the last. If I would’ve checked the buffet first I would’ve left ( like some people did while we there). I can’t believe they would serve old dried out food that needed to be thrown out . It’s also way too salty. It was not edible. No refills on drinks , & rude service , especially from the girl at the checkout.

Yes , we arrived 25 minutes before change over from breakfast to lunch but did not expect food to be COLD, uneatable , and not much to choose from. We got no service !
We have been here numerous times and never had an issue . Of course we were charged full price for left over garbage. Never going back !!!!
There are places that appreciate customers !!!

Came in at lunchtime and was able to get a table right away. The lunchtime buffet is really good with a decent selection of county home cooking food at a reasonable price. It was like $15 with a good ol’e sweet tea. My favorite meat on the buffet was the flounder, and my favorite side on the buffet was the macaroni and cheese. That flounder was so good. I would say it’s better than some seafood restaurants I’ve been to. The service was good. The place is worth a try.

One of the best country buffets I’ve been to! The food was all hot and fresh. Lots to choose from and the shrimp were amazing! If you are in the area, this is a MUST TRY! If you like southern cooking and a friendly atmosphere get here asap!

The service was AMAZING!! However the food was WAAAY to salty. The beef stew, dumplings, hush puppies and the breading on the chicken was very salty. We have been here multiple times and never encountered an issue but today was just wow. I drank 2.5 cups of soda just to wash it down. And I usually never finish one cup of soda. I left with a belly ache. I say taste it before you salt it. Hope it’s a one time occurrence. And I assume that flat things in the picture was a biscuit…

This place is the bomb! Chicken, pork, fish, homemade sides, salad, and multiple desert options. $15 for the dinner buffet and $2.50 for the drink. Family owned and operated! The owner is hands on and checks on each table personally. I definitely recommend this place!
