The soft-serve ice cream from the old Toge no Chaya is no longer available, but it has been renovated into a stylish new shop (over a decade ago).
But the owner is still working hard as ever.
The coffee had a mellow and gentle flavor.
I always stop by on my way back from Kusatsu to Shima Onsen or Ikaho Onsen.
But closing at 3pm is a little early.
My family loves zenzai, and they said the shiratama matcha zenzai was delicious. I wish they had the coffee jelly, which was out of stock… Kuresaka Coffee’s menu was perfect for pairing with sweets. (This is my personal opinion.)
It takes a while for the food to arrive, so be careful if you’re in a hurry! The float-type menu items were ready quickly. Someone who arrived later bought one and left right away (lol).
I found this shop at the top of a winding road.
It’s what you’d call a cafe.
It feels like time passes slowly.
I wonder if it’s relaxing!?
Well, it was just average, but it was nice.
I’d always been curious about this place, but I’d avoided it, thinking it was more of a visitor center.
When I found out it was a cafe, I decided to pop in while leaf-peeping.
The autumn leaves across the street from the store were beautiful. There are also gardens and campgrounds nearby, making Nakanojo truly impressive! (^-^)
The parking lot is gravel, but wheelchair accessible with assistance.
The entrance is also conveniently a ramp, not stairs. (^-^)
The restroom is wheelchair accessible (wide, with handrails), which is especially helpful.
The owner seemed to be working alone, so he seemed busy. This is perfect for those who aren’t in a rush and have plenty of time. (^-^)
Waffle Plate (Chocolate) ¥800
Kuresaka Coffee ¥500
I had it. (^-^)
It was a delicious coffee, refreshing yet still with a hint of bitterness. The waffles are light and easy to eat. (^-^)
This is just my personal opinion, but I think using the restroom at a restaurant is only possible if you order something.
It’s not a public restroom or a convenience store, after all.
It’s a fitting modern-day version of a mountain pass teahouse. (^-^)
A must-visit for anyone visiting Kusatsu, Lake Nojiri, or Shima. (^-^)
I stopped by after eating at Sobadokoro Kuresaka.
The parfait was delicious, filled with seasonal fruits, and while the whipped cream, ice cream, and fruit sauce were sweet enough, the cornflakes were also sugared, which knocked me out, even though I have a sweet tooth!
The coffee jelly was light in color and flavor, and barely tasted like coffee.
The spring water was delicious.
The owner was very nice. It seemed like she was running the place alone, so it must have been quite a busy place.
I sat on the terrace, which was cool and pleasant.
I ordered a hot sandwich and a hot Kurosaka coffee.
You can choose two from three types of hot sandwiches.
I wasn’t planning on eating a huge meal, so the portion was just right for me.
As it was a weekday, there were only two other customers – myself and an elderly couple.
It was quiet and I felt great.
