This place ROCKS!!!! Mara’s southern kitchen is Melville’s best kept secret. It’s time that we all recognize the delicious food that comes from their kitchen. Two thumbs up to Mara and her staff who not only know true hospitality, but excellent Louisiana BBQ.
You can not come here and NOT get their Stuffed crawfish bread!!! HOLY F#*% that was incredible. I just wish I had more. Bravo. This stuffed Baggett with all its savory cheesey, crawfish and sauce… its Sandwich heaven.
The baby back ribs were spot on, fall from the bone, finger smacking delicious. Their BBQ sauce was an excellent addition to the ribs. Loved loved loved all the sides and the portions.
The onion rings are the
The cornbread is fire!
And the fried pickles with their cornbread coating was cooked perfectly.
I got my 16 month old daughter the gator bites, and she LOVED them!!!

Love this place and their food. Can’t wait to go back with friends and family!!!

Great food with a warm welcome!

Went here for dinner and was so glad that I did. When we walked in we were greeted right away and loved the New Orleans decor. The restaurant was extremely clean and they were following the governors COVID protocol.

My friend and I ended up splitting a bunch if dishes. We ended up getting the Gator bites, blackened fried shrimp, Jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, Banana butterscotch rye pie, and prosecco cherry delight.

The starters came out fast and fresh. The Gator bites were okay. They were kinda small and not a lot of Gator taste but the fried taste and sauce were very good. The shrimp were very lightly coated and very tasty.

The main courses were the best I’ve had in a long time. The Jambalaya was perfect. Nice and thick, flavorful and just the right amount of spice. The crawfish etouffee was so hearty and had such a unique taste. The crawfish meat was plentiful and the garlic sauce it was in was amazing. It was a hard choice to pick a favorite, but I like the crawfish the best.

I’m not one to save room for desert but I had to this time. The slices that are served are huge and heavy. The cherry prosecco was this nice whipped and fluffy slice but was heavy and thick because of the soaked ladyfingers. The clear winner to me was the bannana butterscotch rye pie. Words can’t describe how good this was. The thick custard with huge slices of banana were as good as the dense rye infused crust.

If you’re still reading this review and not going to eat here now, I’ve either failed at posting a food review or you’re crazy. Go eat!

Loved the food and the service was fantastic. They were a little short staffed the night I went but even with that the staff was very friendly and attentive. The bar tender had great wine recommendations for my gf and even gave some good selections on what to sample since we had never been. Try the gator sausage or the water bites, they were amazing. The fried chicken was highly recommended and when it came out it was cooked perfectly. Save room for desert. We had strawberry jalapeno and it was interesting. It was a nice blend of sweet…but with a kick.

I always wanted to try true southern cuisine. Mara’s gave me the ability to try several new things; alligator, crawfish, proper collard greens, and strawberry pie. All were good, although the gator did not rally taste like anything different (the spieces in the breading were good though), I was expecting a different flavor profile or texture. The owner Mara (surprise suprise) was very kind and hands on. The pie she made fresh this morning and yes you could definitely tell! I would recommend this place highly, as the menu was amazing with plenty of tasty looking options. All the foods the group ordered looked, smelled, and tasted great. They also have a pretty extensive bar and are nicely set up for a smaller restaurant. Best part was the prices were extremely reasonable and the portions were generous, especially the deserts.

I have been here about 4 times now and every time the food is delicious and satisfying. The meat is always smoked to perfection and the natural flavors really shine, especially in the smoked duck and braised beef short ribs that I tried the other night on the side of corn grits and carrots! They have a great selection of gluten free/dairy free items, although at times service has been inconsistent & some staff did not seem as knowledgeable as others, so be mindful of that. All in all, I love to come here and would recommend to any meat or seafood lovers!

We were looking for a good Cajun place and came across this place online. We decided to try it even though it was not that close to us because of the good reviews and we also had a birthday to celebrate. It’s not big place but that was great because it was not too loud. The staff was exceptional! The food was among the best we have had for Cajun and BBQ. They have a smoker on location. The ribs, brisket and chicken was amazing. The cheese grits were fantastic. The Cajun stuffed with cheese crawfish was sublime- a meal unto itself! The blackened redfish was delicious. We shared the chili, Aligator legs, Aligator sausages and the deviled egg oysters- all excellent. So good we tried talking the chef into opening another place in our town! This place should be on “ triple D”!

Amazing food. One of a kind Nashville hot chicken. The cheese grits where an amazing delight I love grits and they where amazing. I also got for my second side brussel sprouts and it was amazing. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the portion was very large I got an entire half chicken and two sides for 17 dollars that is amzing price. The service felt like I received that wonderful southern hospitality my drink was never not filled and I ate everything. They have a amazing diverse menu. And are gluten free and vegan friendly. All and all just a wonderful experience. A definit must have. I’ll be back very soon.

I was super excited to try Mara’s because it’s around the corner from where I work and I saw there were great gluten-free options from the menu. When we got there, Mara greeted us, sat us, and gave us great service, but when the food came out, it was nothing to rave about. The rice of the jambalaya seemed to have been sitting for days and was $18 for a rather small bowl that didn’t seem to offer too much.

The restaurant was nicely decorated and I’m tempted to return to try other food options, but I’m in no hurry to rush back…

I’ve been a customer of Mara’s since it was located in the East Village. New Orleans and its cuisine holds a special place in my heart…and stomach. Mara’s always does the trick when I’ve been missing NOLA and need that Southern fix. From its NOLA classics to Southern BBQ, the food is always well-prepared, delicious and certainly worth the trip for this Queens girl to head out to Syosset. Drinks are great and so happy I can grab an Abita Andygator here.
Mara is a gracious host and owner, always present to her customers.
