We stopped in on a Friday evening around 6 PM for a quick dinner and drinks before heading to the Asian lantern festival at the central Florida zoo.

It’s not a big place, but we were immediately impressed by the towering and stunning custom wood bar with a copper ceiling. We felt like this bar had history beyond even the 5 years or so this place has been open.

It was moderately busy for the bartender, who was also running tables. Fortunately, we were only her second table and could tell she was quite experienced and could handle the volume. One or two more tables, and she likely would have needed some help though

We ordered the meatloaf sandwich and loaded chips. The chips were what you would expect, and the meatloaf was delicious. I’m not a beer expert, but we tried their pale ale which was quite good.I believe the name was Harp Lager.

Overall, we had a good experience, and would definitely go back again.

A very laid back bar with comfortable large booth seating against the opposite wall. Very friendly staff. I enjoyed the indirect lighting, it wasn’t dreary dark but the lighting is dim enough that you’re not getting blasted by light bulbs. The food was also amazing. Very crisp and fresh fish and chips. You can taste the different meats and veggies in the shepherds pie, and the soothing egg was a teensy bit dry but also tasted very good. Overall, highly recommended to check this place out!

The atmosphere at The Sullivan Public House is undeniably its strongest asset. The hand-carved woodwork provides a truly authentic and welcoming ambiance.

Unfortunately, recent operational changes and service execution have made a return visit unlikely for us. The decision to eliminate the food menu, while perhaps understandable from a business perspective, removes a key draw.

More concerning, however, is the management’s response to similar feedback online. The tone in replies—which often seems condescending and dismissive of customer experience—is a major turn-off. In a customer-facing business, this attitude is a critical misstep.

Last night highlighted ongoing operational issues. Early in the evening, ordering drinks was pure chaos due to a very long line. Furthermore, we observed a troubling pattern where the female bartender routinely ignored mixed drink orders, prioritizing faster, “easier” serves like shots and beers. This wasn’t an isolated incident; other patrons at the bar noted the exact same frustrating experience.

In summary, the excellent environment can no longer compensate for these service and operational shortcomings. We won’t be returning.

Almost from its inception, we have been enjoying The Sullivan because of its authentic Irish decor, quality live music, food, service, and range of Irish beers. We especially liked the fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, and other offerings because it reminded us of Ireland. We hope that some day some kind of food will be available again to make for a complete Irish pub experience.

Absolutely beautiful and authentic looking Irish pub … Beautiful wood work and ambiance. I didn’t even know this place was here, found it and love it! The beer is wonderful ( of course) and the mixes you can get and blends of beers. I didn’t try the whisky, but I know that are known for that too. Owners are super friendly and staff is very helpful. Food Ah-maaaaaz-ing!!

We spent night in Sanford night before our early flight and happily found the downtown area. We were surprised at the active downtown area and hadn’t made reservations. We put our name in at one place and had a wait so we continued on and found The Sullivan. We walked right in at the table and waiter said to plop down wherever we’d like. Shotgun style bar, booths on sides and high-top tables down middle. Bar was along one side as well. There was a lively crowd and people coming in and out through out our dinner. We ordered the Vegetable Risotto Cakes and the Corned Beef Sandwich. Risotto cakes were excellent, crispy outside and creamy flavorful inside. Corned Beef Sandwich was the best I’ve ever had! Meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the cabbage/carrots in mustard broth dressing was the perfect punch! Served on a house made soda bread which was delicious as well. Fries were light and seasoned great.
I’d recommend The Sullivan to anyone who likes an Irish pub or good food in general! Service was great and prompt, chef delivered meal to table which was a nice touch. Bathrooms were clean and spacious.

Pains me to give 2 stars, Used to be fun place to go, but last couple visit were like a wake. Zero atmosphere, not sure if they have music any more. but when I was in there its boring quiet, no music, no radio, no vibe at all. Not even volume on the couple tiny TVs.

They have a good whiskey selection but I cant see spending premium money for premium whiskey to sip in a no atmosphere place.

Extremely disappointed that they no longer serve food. This use to be one of our Sanford favorites for a cozy night out to grab good beer and delicious food, the fries were to die for!! We went tonight and they were very weird about me asking for a food menu. The entire vibes of the place were just off. If you asked me about Sullivans 6 months ago I would’ve given it 10 stars.

The best part of The Sullivan was the bartender! He was fabulously cheeky. Sadly, I didn’t get his name but he was a witty Irish fellow who recommended some good whiskey and some great Irish food. The bar wasn’t super busy but it was nice because you could hear the lovely music. This restaurant/bar was gorgeous! The bar shelving was so intricate and ornate, the ceilings were pressed tin, and it had these adorable little rooms where you could squeeze about 5 or 6 of your best mates in for more intimate evening or to hide your raucous good time. We had Guiness battered onion rings, shepherd’s pie, and bangers and mash. Honestly, the food was some of the best I’ve had in quite a while. I highly recommend and hopefully, you’ll have the outstanding Irish bartender because though the food and drink were fantastic, he truly made the whole experience.

Wandered in here on a cool and rainy afternoon. Perfect atmosphere for such a day. Had the opportunity to watch some Premier league football, enjoy a couple of very nice pints, and made it feel like we were back in Ireland. Very nice whiskey selection as well, if you’re into that, which I am. Looking forward to coming back and enjoying some live music as well.
