Killer roast beef sandwiches since 1967. The recipe for our famous roast beef sandwich is simple: 100% real top round beef. Slow roasted on-site for three hours. Shaved extra thin. Served medium rare on a lightly toasted buttered bun. And topped with a dash of secret seasoning. It’s the same way we’ve done it for over 50 years. Voted Best Fries by St. Louis Magazine.

Counter-serve chain specializing in slow-roasted beef sandwiches served hot on toasted buns.

People were nice and accommodating even giving a pup cup to my service dog.
BUT the fries were NOT fresh. They were re-dipped into the fryer and were hard and just terrible. I did not eat there. I ate elsewhere and was not able to return to get FRESH fries. Sandwich was just a bit over cooked. I was there at 1:29:20pm on 01/21/2026. Thanks for listening.

I’m sorry but I can no longer recommend this restaurant, too many times, this visit was 4 pm approximately, used the drive thru, nice polite server, quick service but the roast beef was room temp, beef didn’t seem very fresh, au jus was cold, it’s supposed to be hot, the only thing I can recommend is the fries, they were hot and fresh. So sad to say goodbye, lions choice used to be my favorite, I drove 35 minutes to get a sandwich from them, not any more, goodbye.

It was after 11 pm. I had a late meeting, and I was ravenous. Despite being low on some food items, they were friendly, clean, professional, and willing to compromise with me without any attitude or escalation. I, too, was polite and understanding that it was the end of the day. So, I didn’t get exactly what I wanted, but I got what I needed. A hot meal and a wonderful interaction.
I don’t remember names, but I believe it was Tuesday, December 16th.

They didn’t cook the meat and gave me old fries
I came just the other night and was driving late and ordered a large roast beef and noticed it tasted different and my sandwich was cold and the bun was soggy and was not toasted. I had to pull over as I was eating on my way home and saw this! The fries were extremely hot but it was really hard as if they were putting it too close to the heat lamp and baking them to serve longer instead of making fresh fries this is poor food handling and disgusting.

Brand new place, it’s obvious the crew is still new as they made minor mistakes on our order, we’re confused about my order even when I was at the drive-up window to pay for it (apparently the two seemed to argue a little). Outside of a bit of a delay getting in (new place lots of excitement) we got our food and headed home.

I’m happy to see a gluten free bun available (wife has no choice but the best).

Kids enjoyed their meal a lot. I enjoyed it, bun was a little soggy and either they were in a rush and piled the food funny or I got shorted (see pic) but they did make mine medium well as requested.

We’ll return again, fully understanding they’re still getting started.

I liked the design at the order box, unsure if it will provide any actual cover during weather..

I have to admit, it’s been a long time since I had Lion’s Choice. Not a lot of them nearby. The food was awesome! Great flavor, hot. My entire family enjoyed what they ate.

I absolutely love, Lion’s Choice. When I lived in STL, I was fortunate to live only a mile from Lion’s Choice. Now, I have to drive to Edwardsville to get my fix, but it is well worth it. I’ve learned to plan errands around lunch or dinner time and treat myself to a delicious roast beef sandwich.

Their roast beef is more flavorful and juicy then the other fast-food restaurant that claims to be, America’s roast beef, yes sir. I like that theirs is served medium, so there is some pink to the meat. The seasoning, is also what puts their sandwiches above the others. If you like cheese on yours, they’ll let you pick between Swiss and Cheddar. I always go with, Swiss. I’d love it if they offered my favorite, Pepper Jack.

The french fries are the absolute best fast-food fries, in my humble opinion. They’re always; hot, fresh, super crispy and seasoned with the just right amount of salt. When ordering a combo, I always upgrade to a shake. I can get a soda anywhere, but the shakes here are super thick and are the perfect accompaniment to my meal.

Service is friendly and accommodating. The staff keeps the dining room clean and neat making for a pleasant atmosphere to dine.

When dining in, be sure to read your placemat for some history of Lion’s Choice. You’ll be amazed.

Great service and good food make this a great location to visit. Only complaint is that the gluten free buns is 75¢ instead of 50¢ like the other stores. Really love that have a dedicated fryer and are very accommodating to Celiac’s.

If I could give zero stars, I would. The last couple of times we have been at this location has been disappointing. This time, our sodas were PACKED with ice. Looked like iced tea (supposed to be Dr. Pepper)and the flavor was not right. We had went through the drive through, so we parked and went in. We informed the staff there was a problem with the soda, and just replaced ours at the self serve fountain. The soda machines may be running low on syrup or are not mixing right because even what we got on our own was a little off. At lease we had less ice.
Our last visit here, we were told how the next time there would be a $5 reward available. When we ordered this time, no reward. I didn’t think those expired, and it has been less than a month since we were there.
Overall, Lion’s Choice has went downhill big time. Not just at this location. The portion sizes are laughable. Dine in, you get a small handful of fries. Drive though, not much better. We are not big people, but even to us, the sandwiches seem tiny. Shrinkflation??? These portions don’t cut it. Also, whatever this plastic basket thing the food is served in for dine in is STUPID! It’s not the sort of thing people care about and its non impressive. I’m sure they do that to get away with the smaller portions. The overall quality has gone down. From the buns, to the fries. Meat has stayed pretty consistent, other than portion size. Use to feel we got a good value for our money. Today for 2 cub meals, and 2 number 1 originals was $37.97. For not much more, we could have ate at a higher end dine in restaurant and got a better meal. I remember years ago, Edwardsville had a lions choice right next door to where this location is. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s on its way out again. This was one of our favorite places. Now, I don’t think we will be back.
