I almost feel bad that I’ve never reviewed Sam’s Barbecue, because I’ve been going there for quite a while now. Google finally sent me one of those reminders asking if I wanted to write a review — and the answer is an easy yes. This place gets five stars from me without hesitation.
Whenever my friends and I want a truly good meal, this is where we go. I’m a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to Texas, and I love finding those genuine, no-nonsense spots that remind me of what I grew up with. Sam’s Barbecue is exactly that kind of place.
It’s a completely local hangout — authentic Texas through and through. No fuss, no frills, just incredible food and the kind of atmosphere that feels real the moment you walk in. If you want outstanding barbecue and a true Texas-style experience, there simply isn’t a better place in the area than Sam’s.

I would give them 10 stars if I could my boyfriend and I went there for my birthday. It was our first time there and I was absolutely over the moon with my food. I been to a lot of BBQ places in Decatur (Roosters or other out on 287 towards Alvord and they do no come close to food quality, service etc. I think you should take a trip to the greatest BBQ place in Boyd Texas. Thank you for give me a birthday to remember and a fabulous meal. Can’t wait to come back. Also try the dessert witch they gave me for my birthday with ice cream on top and sang pretty good I must say.

Decided to give this place a try while driving through the area and was pleasantly surprised. My wife, son and I all indulged in a little lunch action and left with full and satisfied belly’s . My wife tried the Frito pie plate with the chopped beef and spicy BBQ sauce and she said she really enjoyed it. My son and I both had the pork ribs plate and I had the broccoli and rice with cheese and regular Mac salad for sides and my son had the Mac n cheese and broccoli salad for his sides. The meat was tender and not dry and I like how they offer the sauce on the side since I’m not a big sauce person on my BBQ meats. I ordered the spicy sauce and it definitely has a nice kick if you choose to put any on your meat. Overall the meal was very good and the portion sizes are good for the prices. The staff couldn’t have been any nicer and they keep it clean. I will definitely be coming back to try some other options.

The vegetables were some of the best that I have had.

The brisket was like roast beef with sauce that could be poured on it. Not bad but not the best. Leave it in the smoker longer and baste it with sauce while smoking it.

My lady and I thoroughly enjoyed the place. Best BBQ I’ve had in a while. Great service, excellent food, and really affordable. If you’re thinking about Dickey’s, just don’t, they can’t hold a candle to the place.

YUMMY! Our meal cost us $24.00 for a kids meal. Brisket baked potato and 2 small drinks and a peach cobbler. They have a bar a stage and pool tables. Restrooms need cleaning. We did encounter flies. Nice staff. Get the spicy sauce. It’s amazing. Kids plate has a lot of food on it. Brisket baked potato is WOW in size and yummy. Over all really tasty.

Unbelievable BBQ spot i just found. They throw the brisket on at 8pm and slow burn that baby until the morning. And you can taste it. Everybody was really nice. Chef’s kiss ‍ muah

For me the meat was “just okay.” The brisket didn’t have that smoked flavor and in fact, it lacked ANY smoky flavor at all. If I had to guess, it tasted baked and not smoked. My husband smokes brisket almost every weekend, experimenting with different wood flavor and cook times so we know what we like from a brisket. I will hand it to Sam’s, it was moist. But it’s almost as if they were depending on us to dunk it in the bbq sauce for any flavor which is NOT how I eat brisket. I don’t want to rely on a dipping sauce to make the meat taste good, that’s a waste of meat (I might as well dip spam in bbq sauce at that point because it takes from the fact of it being brisket!).

The ham actually had a hint of smoke flavor but it was served lukewarm. Our sides of mac and cheese and green beans were also lukewarm, kind of gross and we didn’t finish them. The okra, on the other hand, was great!

Ugh, I hate to write this but the tea was sour and the restrooms hadn’t been cleaned in a while (the walls were dirty and the soap dispenser wasn’t working but was still hanging on the wall despite there being a soap bottle on the sink). It gave me the feeling that they rely on customer patronage based on the bar/happy hour more so than families visiting during the daytime. The nighttime life probably is where they get most of their money, just an assumption based on what we experienced.

We won’t be returning for the food. The guys serving our meat plates and sides were not that friendly either, they seemed bored and didn’t really want to do anything, so it was a slow moving line. Albeit the lady running the cash register was friendly though.

Wait! The saving grace was the banana pudding! It was actually fresh (the bananas were barely brown) and the wafers were not soggy. So they do have that going but not enough to make a special trip over here.

Good solid experience. Love their brisket. Sides were all great, we had BBQ pinto beans, fried okra, slaw and macaroni and cheese. Their brisket frito pie is super yummy. Nice folks serving up great food.

Had the sliced brisket plate. It was like leather strips and had zero flavor. Not sure what is going on here but maybe it was an off day.

Had the rice and potato salad. Both were ok. Sorry, but risking my health on possibly choking another piece of brisket is not in my future.
