We decided to try a couple of the street snacks, the roti with curry sauce and beef lettuce wraps. I ordered the Khao Soi (one of my favorites) and was very happy with its authenticity. My wife tried an $18 quick layover lunch (a sampler of a snack, market main, and dessert), with the falafel, pad Thai (very fresh and light!), and mango with purple sticky rice. I had 2 glasses of Rioja, and my wife had a Like Water for Chocolate Mexican martini.
I won’t write a summary of each dish, but the authenticity and flavors of each were exactly what we experienced when we were in the region of origin. It was a remarkable meal.
Luckily, we had a chance to chat with Thy (pronounced “Tee”), who is co-owner with her husband. Their goal was to provide a global experience locally, with a focus on some of their favorite street and market foods from their travels. And we learned they have a more formal location serving more upscale dishes… our next date night destination, Traveler’s Table!
They took this really cool concept and executed it right. I’m Viet and I approved of their bò lá lốt. They did tone down the spices and fish sauce a little bit to make it more palable to the American palate, but not to the point where the flavors and ethic elements are compromised. Can’t speak for the other 2 dishes but fwiw, I think they tasted good too.
The service was good and the prices weren’t terrible.
Traveler’s cart is an excellent rendition of fusion food. The coconut milk and galangal in the beef rendang and butter chicken masala in the samosas shine through.
They mix in accompaniments (e.g. the bhindi and rice crackers in the rendang) that complement and don’t mess with the flavor of the main item.
The choice of food is very interesting and has something from various parts of the world.
We had the butter chicken samosas, beef rendang, chicken khao soi, and a side fried plantain tostones. Good portions of food.
We had the fast boat to Havana and a Free spirited Cuban to drink.
We will be back to try something else.
Do not recommend the salmon donburi. The salmon were overcooked and way too salty.
