The buffet started with fresh fluffy biscuits and milk gravy with sausage. It also had; scrambled eggs, hash browns, scrambled omelette, american fries, link sausage, bacon, patty sausage, french toast, waffles, pancakes and carve-able ham. They even had a bowl of fresh fruit. I took a sampling of everything and for buffet food, it was as good as if it were made to order and brought to my table.
The servers are friendly and did frequent table checks to make sure everything was satisfying. My coffee cup was topped off on the regular, so it was always warm.
HG isn’t a true diner, but it’s a restaurant that specializes in comfort foods.
I came in to have breakfast with a friend who hadn’t arrived yet. I waited patiently to be seated and politely asked the host, an older gentleman, if I could sit in a booth. I was told there were no booths available, even though I could clearly see two open booths at the time. I accepted the table I was given.
Shortly after, another party of two came in and requested a booth and was immediately seated in one of the booths I had been told was unavailable. Then another couple was seated in the second booth.
When my waitress came (she was kind and professional), I ordered water. Afterward, I noticed a booth had opened right next to my table and asked if I could move. She agreed, but before I could, the host returned with another older man and stated that I could not sit in a booth unless I had a party of five.
This was confusing and upsetting, especially since multiple smaller parties had just been seated in booths moments earlier. The two men stood there repeating that I needed five people to sit in a booth. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable staying.
As I gathered my belongings to leave, one of the men loudly said, “That’s right, have a good day,” which felt unnecessary and embarrassing.
I rarely leave reviews, as I understand everyone has tough days. However, I couldn’t ignore how this situation made me feel. I also noticed I was the only minority in the restaurant at the time, which made the treatment feel even more uncomfortable and concerning.
All I wanted was to enjoy a comfortable breakfast. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed and disappointed. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses how guests are treated moving forward.
But once he saw us it was “no back room” and “we can’t do it”….we even asked if he could seat half the guests or to less than 10…met with more rudeness and said he didn’t “want no party”. We just wanted to eat breakfast. We left since we didn’t want to be around that vibe anyways – felt the prejudice for sure.
There was certainly room for the few groups of people I saw walk in before and after we walked out. Didn’t try the food obviously, so no clue if it’s fine or terrible. The other staff just barely spoke, said some fake sorrys…
