The first time we ordered about three weeks ago, everything was excellent, the chicken kadai, samosas, and biryani were all delicious. This time we tried the paneer tikka, and it was unfathomably bland and easily the worst I’ve had in Portland. Luckily, we had the samosa chaat to help salvage the paneer pieces.

I don’t want one disappointing dish to ruin the whole place, so I’ll give it another go, but I’ll definitely be steering clear of the tikka in all its forms.

This was my second time ordering the chicken saag and it felt so good to be biking home over Tabor looking forward to my little feast. The sauce is rich and the flavors are delicious. The chicken is very tender and seems fresher and a better quality than you sometimes get with Indian or Thai. I did want to offer a bit of feedback in a spirit of kindness and honesty… I thought my dish today was too salty. With each bite the saltiness went past elevating the other flavors to overpowering them.

It might also have been a lingering baking soda taste, if the chickpeas are being soaked in a baking soda solution to peel them?

If it’s salt, we can always salt more at home!
If it’s baking soda … I don’t know how the fix that? Maybe a super super thorough rinse before the chickpeas are blended into the sauce?

Whichever it was, it’s not going to stop me from coming back and trying many other dishes. This spot seems great.

The flavors here are insane. I’m addicted to their lamb dishes but seriously everything here is good and taste fresh and full of flavor. If you’re having a bad day and need something to make you feel better, eat here.

Oh my goodness. This is do-not-touch-your-face-spicy Indian food that will heal your embittered soul. I used to live in Central Square, Cambridge, MA where there were, like, thirteen Indian restaurants in the space of three blocks, and I couldn’t cook, so I think I got to know what Indian should taste like. Finally Portland has an Indian place that makes me not care about going back.

We got chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, naan, and gulab jamoon (a dessert which one of the Cambridge restaurants’ menus described, accurately but unappealingly, as ‘dark brown ball in syrup’. Look, marketing wasn’t their priority, and that’s fine. You can’t eat copy.)

We’ve eaten here at least 7 times since they put their kart in Hinterland. Everything has been top notch. The service is great and they are always so friendly. My wife is from S.F. and said it’s as good as anything she had in the Bay. Can’t recommend this place enough.

On a complete whim, I went to the Hinterland food cart park to check it out, and I decided to buy a little bit here and there from the different vendors. Most things were ready in about five to ten minutes, but it took a good half hour before my beeper started buzzing letting me know my Indian food was ready…

…and I don’t care, because despite living and dining all over the world, it is the best Indian food I have ever had in my entire life. There is no competition – reasonable prices, generous portions, quality ingredients, and the most authentic, best Indian food I have ever had.

The palak paneer is not a watered-down soup – it is a rich, thick, heaping bowl slow cooked over many hours. The malai kofta has incredibly flavorful vegetable dumplings that hold up in their thick creamy broth.

Seriously, you have to try this place.

This food cart has THE best indian food I have ever had. My wife and I have tried over half the menu with our favorite dishes being chicken kadai and paneer korma. Their garlic naan is fluffy, chewy and amazing. I also never get anything without an order of their ras malai dessert. The owners are always so nice and pleasant to talk to.
