My partner and I have been coming to this restaurant for over two years, and it is hands-down one of the best dining experiences you can have. The food is always flawless, the service is amazing, and the atmosphere makes every visit feel special.

We ordered the miso soup, and WOW — 5/5, easily the best we’ve ever had. Rich, flavorful, perfectly balanced… it’s one of those dishes you think about long after you leave.

Every time we come here, whether it’s for a casual night out or a special occasion, the quality is consistently outstanding. This place never misses. If you’re looking for incredible food, a welcoming vibe, and a restaurant that keeps you coming back year after year, this is the one. Highly, highly recommend!

Ps order our combo:
-2 orders of deep fried gyoza
-2 orders of beef kushiyaki
-2 orders of the spicy miso soup

Best you will ever have!!!!!

This restaurant started off so nice , the appetizers we got were really good. And then when we got our entrees is when the problems started. 2 out of 4 guests I was with (including me) had METAL chunks and like metal can lid scraps in their soup that they almost missed and one person almost ate it was in her mouth. The server who was helping us told us there was nothing he could do to compensate for the food, and brought us new food after we told him we do not want it because metal is a big issue, and everyone felt weird after that and didn’t want to keep eating. He couldn’t split the check, comp the food off, or take off the large party fee for 4 people?? it’s not a fancy restaurant either so being someone in the restaurant atmosphere i’ve never charged someone for a large party fee for 4 people. And that is something that should be said somewhere, but it is not mentioned, i think splitting the check should be mentioned too if you really can’t. He said that he can’t do any of that without the manger, so we asked for him to bring the manager out or call them. He then stuttered and said well uh uh she doesn’t answer me. So we told him then what can we do here because this is crazy, metal in food is no joke and can kill someone. He disappeared for maybe 30 seconds, and came back with a new ticket with only the large party fee removed. When that wasn’t really the big issue, but if you say you can’t do that but did, so why can’t you also remove the bowls with metal in them off the ticket. The server had no words when we asked that. So we paid for everything else on the ticket in cash, besides the 2 bowls and the large party fee (that was removed) which is more than fair. And all the guy wanted to continuous do was argue about it.

This place was excellent! In true Japanese style, the service was hospitable and fast! Dishes came out so fast, hot and fresh. We went in without reservation and got seated right away. I would definitely come back and try more off the menu. We didn’t have a bad dish.

I ordered out takeout from this place, via UberEats. I was in the ER, and starving. I ordered the spicy garlic edamame and the Kuro Ramen.

After digging in and eating half the edamame, I saw a hair on one of edamame, and I immediately requested a refund.

So I go home after the ER, and ask for a refund for the ramen because I was afraid hair was in it. But ubereats denied me. So two days later, because I’m sick, so I made pack ramen. I decided to use the extra ingredients that I paid for, and couldn’t get a refund for, in my pack ramen.

As I sift through the ingredients and start putting them in a bowl, I see ANOTHER HAIR in my ramen, on my egg.. crazy because I wasn’t gonna use the egg at all, but something told me to just check. And there it was.

To Kuro, please ensure your staff are wearing hairnets. And to future customers, best of luck to you!

Our family can’t stop talking about this place! We ordered chicken Katsu curry and different types of Ramen; we haven’t had anything this good since our trip to Japan. They had many great options to choose from. The peach soda, mango tea, and pomegranate lemonade drinks were so refreshing! Service was great, presentation was great. A little outside of Chinatown, but DEFINITELY worth it! Our favorite place we went to in Chicago.

Been over a year since I’ve been back to this cozy establishment… Definitely missed it!

Kuro Ramen is a small restaurant with a simple, modest interior. The cute anime decorations around the front desk create a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Large windows at the front make it so that the place is well lit.

The three of us shared the Bang Bang Shrimp and Kimchi Fries for our appetizer, and each of us got the *Signature* Kuro Ramen noodles for our entrees.

The Bang Bang Shrimp was the first dish to hit the table. It was piping hot and ready to be savored. Each shrimp was coated with a light, crispy breading and a spicy mayo-like sauce… soon as the first one hit my buds, my mouth was set alight with flavor. Dynamite for real. Love how shareable the dish is too.

The Kimchi Fries were decent. They used thin shoestring fries, almost identical in flavor to McDonalds. The toppings/sauce were fine, just wish there was more of it. Didn’t really cover the surface area of the fries too well. Still good to munch on.

Last but not least, the Kuro Ramen! What makes this ramen stand out is the black garlic oil they use as part of the base, as well as the wonderful bouncy texture of the noodles. This time, however, I feel like they barely used any of the black garlic oil, so the broth didn’t really pack that much of a punch for me. It just tasted like ordinary tonkatsu this time… but don’t get me wrong—this was still a VERY satisfying bowl of ramen. After I slurped up the last drop of broth, I felt REBORN. Oh, and I should mention: the pork they used was thick and chunky—not the thin slices of chashu that is usually served with tonkatsu ramen. Very delicious, but they seasoned it with a little too much salt for my taste. I was parched after finishing the bowl. Room for improvement for sure.

All in all, this is a great spot to visit for ramen if you’re in the Chinatown area, but you would like to enjoy your meal away from the hustle & bustle of the main plaza. It’s also the best ramen in Chinatown, so you can’t go wrong. Check it out sometime!
