The restaurant itself is full of charm and grace, tucked inside a beautiful historic building surrounded by lush gardens. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality. You could immediately tell that many of the staff members have been part of the Swan Coach House family for decades — some for over 25 years — and it truly shows in the care, pride, and personal touches they bring to every table.
Afternoon tea was simply delightful. Every detail, from the delicate china to the perfectly arranged tiers of finger sandwiches, warm scones, and miniature desserts, was beautifully done. Each bite was crafted with such elegance and flavor that we felt transported to a more refined, slower-paced time. The chicken salad, a signature dish here, absolutely lived up to its legendary reputation. And don’t even get me started on the homemade cheese straws — they alone are worth the trip!
The atmosphere is relaxed yet sophisticated, ideal for catching up with friends, celebrating a special occasion, or just treating yourself to a lovely escape from the bustle of the city. It’s the kind of place where conversations linger and memories are made.
A huge thank you to the entire team at the Swan Coach House for creating such a memorable afternoon for us. It’s clear that this isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a treasured part of Atlanta’s history and hospitality. We can’t wait to return.
TLDR: Fantastic Southern inspired savories and delicious tea with hit or miss desserts, charming ambience and decor with solid service that could have been better (but could have been an off day), very Instagrammable and actually worth your money.
The tea sandwiches were a good size, plenty for the two of us. The chicken salad sandwich was served on the fluffiest white bread that I think about to this day. The cheese straws are delicious, so fun! The ham sandwiches were beautifully buttery, but the scones left something to be desired. They were fine, but I could tell it was the one area they skimped out on. Our dessert course was also somewhat hit or miss, not because the food was ill prepared, it just wasn’t to our tastes. The chocolate pastries were all delicious though.
The ambience of this establishment is so elegant and Southern, quintessentially charming inside and out. (We did a quick look at the gift shop, you could stay in there for hours). The restaurant was beautifully quiet when we went (random Wednesday) and it’s small enough that it feels intimate. Our lovely first server sat us near the window.
The service had its ups and downs, but I never try to give too much fault unless it was egregious, which this wasn’t. To mention, the gentleman who sat us was incredibly professional and hospitable. My friend wasn’t the biggest fan of our main server, a young woman around our age, as she felt that she was rushing us through our meal. I felt it a bit too, but we got there at about 1:40, seated at 1:50, only 40 minutes before their main dining room was closed, so I don’t fully fault the young woman (probably underpaid) for wanting us to be a bit more quick (as I am not prone to do). By no means was she outrageously rude, and filled our tea cups, gave us honey and attended to us adequately.
Overall, the Swan House is a nice establishment that combines charming aesthetics with good food that doesn’t break the bank. (One of the cheapest afternoon teas in Atlanta and it’s more worth your dollar than the St. Regis Christmas tea!). With a few tweaks, they could be even better, but whenever I want to have a good afternoon tea with a friend or take someone out for a lovely “ladies who lunch” moment, I’ll take them here.
(Also, quietly want to put this fear to bed: My friend and I were the youngest ladies in the restaurant by far but the wait staff never made us feel odd about it.)
