My daughter & I had our new year lunch here. We ordered gai lan, the seafood hot pot & best of all the crab with green onions & ginger sauce. My daughter is not a fan of crab, but once she had a taste, she became a fan. Can’t blame her…the crab was so flavourful!! So very yummy. A little pricey as it’s sold by the pound (cost was $72 for the dish alone), but worth every dollar. Would definitely go back.

Solid spot for classic Chinese food. The sweet & sour pork was crispy and saucy, and the noodles were loaded with meat and veggies—super satisfying. Big portions, great for a chill meal.

Wonderful Cantonese dishes. I had the house special chow mein and curry beef brisket on rice with a friend. The portion size is generous and cost is very reasonable. I love eating here.

I visited this restaurant with my family a week ago. I just didn’t know this place existed at all. We ordered #15 Hot and Sour soup ($12), #24 Chinese Mushrooms with Veggies ($22), #92 Spicy Chicken ($21), #106 Assorted Meat and Seafood with Bean Curd Hot Pot ($21.50) and #158 BBQ Pork Fried Rice ($17.95).

Everything was quite tasty except for Chinese mushrooms dish and spicy chicken. These dishes could’ve been better. We expected to have a chicken that was nicely deep fried with sauces instead it was some stir fried dish. It contained too many green peppers mixed with chicken. Besides the mushroom dish and chicken both tasted identical with oyster sauce

We really liked soup, fried rice and the hot pot dish. Their dishes in general wasn’t too overpowering in my personal opinion. Hot and sour soup was flavourful and mild. Don’t worry there’s was only little heat. I could definitely use chilly or more spice. Price was reasonable. We wouldn’t recommend mushroom dish (#24) and spicy chicken (#91). Food tasted okay overall NOT amazing.

Highly recommend bringing your own food containers. We ended up taking leftovers home. Washroom was clean. **Credit card and cash are accepted!**

Been coming here since their grand opening in 90s. I went there as a young kid in high school and still go there now. They literally watched me grow up and our family constantly go there almost every week for a take out or dine in. Prices were uber cheap with plenty of lunch specials that were giant proportions, but now as with all other restaurants prices have gone up. Their sets used to be around $30 for 3 entrees plus a free soup, rice and a free crab. Yes we are talking the 90s and my family of 3 can eat for 3 – 4 days as leftovers. But I still go there out of loyalty and remembered tastes and food is same as before. I took 1 star off the food because I think the food has gone a bit bland…is it my old age taste buds or did they change chefs?

Excellent food and reasonably priced. We ordered 7 plates of food.
Crab, calamari, 2 rice dishes, Crispy chicken, chow mein, and pan fried rice noodles. Every dish was excellent and flavourful.
Sorry I didn’t take any pictures as we devoured the food when it arrived.
Family run business. Staff were very attentive to our needs and cleared full plates of bones and shell off our table and replaced with clean ones.
I will definitely come back here for dinner.
Came back 2day. Ordered a bunch of plates. I was disappointed with the chicken dish as the chicken was not fresh. Their was a tint of yellow on the meat which means that the chicken is old. The female waitress was very nice n helpful. The male waiter didn’t smile at all…maybe needs a vaca…..eventhough I left them a large 18% tip for 2days mediocre food.

Please do not go here. Ordered beef brisket curry on rice , the food was yellow with tons of tumeric as the curry was stale, not sure quality of beef. The attitude of the server and the cashier was terrible, insisted on tip for something while paying. I would have paid the tip but was not happy with food quality also did not want to be pressured by bad attitude. Will not be coming here, the staff bad mouths and talks about customers to one another. Horrible service not seen elsewhere.
Rude and demanding forceful behaviour by front cashier lady to tip and yelling in front of others to embarrass and trying to intimidate , owner must look into this issue and stop this behaviour from staff. There are many other good places to dine. Will never give my money to rude and ignorant staff. Behaviour must be reported and inspection services must be carried out to check food quality and service.

Okay, bear with me for a bit… this post is a year in the making. Back in February of 2018, I dropped by New Lakeview Seafood in Burnaby for a revisit since it had been over 4 years since my last visit. I remembered that this place gets very busy during the lunch hour rush so I was fairly surprised that it wasn’t that busy (perhaps it was all of the snow that we had on this day).

Undeterred, I saddled up to one of the tables and ordered the Tai Pan Don Chow Mein ($9.25) which is a vegetarian soy sauce noodle dish with shiitake mushrooms, green onions, onions, and a mountain of noodles. Seriously, this was huge pile of noodles.

A few months later, I had a hankering for some wonton noodle soup so I came back for a revisit and ordered the Beef Brisket and Wonton Noodle Soup ($9). Interestingly, they brought me out a fork with my dish and they seemed surprised when I asked for a pair of chopsticks. Maybe I don’t look Chinese enough…

This is a big bowl of noodles… easily big enough to share with two people. There’s also quite a large amount of tender beef brisket in this dish. What you don’t see in the first picture is the 6 large pork and shrimp wontons underneath all of the noodles.

In keeping with the theme of this post, here’s their Special Chow Mein ($11.75) which comes with a mix of seafood and various meats (bbq pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, shiitake mushrooms, veggies, etc…). This isn’t on their lunch special menu and it seemed to take longer for them to make. Probably best to just stick with their lunch specials.

Exactly 1 year from my initial revisit in 2018, I returned to New Lakeview Seafood (interestingly enough, it was also a snowy day). The Pan Fried Beef with Rice Noodles ($11.50) is another noodle dish (this time, a broad and flat rice noodle) which I’ve always enjoyed since my childhood. Simple and satisfying… and let’s not forget the huge portion size.

If you’re looking for a place to fill up on carbs… this is a good place to visit.

UPDATE – Dec 2025: It’s been about 6 years since I last visited here. Used to come here when I worked in the neighbourhood. The name of the restaurant always puzzled me because it’s not near a lake and the restaurant seems to have been here for years. Still, you can count on a good deal here with generous portion size and fair prices.

Had the Assorted Meat and Seafood with Bean Curd Hot Pot $21.5, Shredded Chicken Chow Mein $19.95, and Egg Rolls $2.25 each.
Service was friendly and helpful and the place was fairly busy.

New favorite!! Tiny place along 6th street in Burnaby but the service and the food were totally worth coming back to. This is going to be one of go-tos now when we’re craving Chinese food :). Their portions are massive and not bad on the wallet. If you’re in the area, stop by and check this place out.
