The service and atmosphere at Pete’s Pancake House was incredible. The staff is so friendly and made the overall experience amazing. They serve their pancakes with homemade Vermont Maple Syrup that is definitely worth a try. Came for breakfast left with core memories. Definitely will come back 🙂

As you may know if you follow my comments, I have a very rare allergy to onions garlic and many other ingredients belonging to the same family. Here they have been exceptionally helpful and have adapted to my diet. Above this, and beyond the great and tasteful (and generous!) meal, I have to say they are awesome people. You feel like if you knew them all your life. You feel like if you were in family! I have no words to recommend this little paradise, how they make you feel. Cooking and heart go hand by hand here. Please, come and experience their breakfast and love.

Nestled in the scenic foothills of Bennington, VT dwells a sinister pancake challenge silently and successfully slaying food warriors without a single defeat since 2016. At Papa Pete’s House of THE Giant Pancakes, one must complete 3 of their legendary 14-inch pancakes that can weigh between 2.5-3 pounds each! There is no time limit to finish this massive stack, but it must be completed before the restaurant closes at noon. Winners receive all their pancakes for free and a t-shirt proclaiming “I conquered the Papa Pete’s Challenge.” Losers must pay $60 dollars for the pancakes and leave with belly clobbered by carbs. Though thousands of brave souls have attempted, only 12 eaters have demonstrated enough gastric gumption to gobble all three of Papa Pete’s Giant Pancakes in one sitting.

Enticed to join such glorious winning ranks, I met up with my buddy, Shawn (Basketlockerball) to finally break this challenge’s 9 year winning streak and become the 13th and 14th winners of the Papa Pete’s Challenge.

As soon as our pancakes hit the table, we knew were in for quite the match. My stack weighed 8lbs while Shawn’s clocked in at 9lbs! This challenge is not for the faint of heart or stomach. I came armed with sugar free syrup, peanut butter, chocolate milk, and strawberry milk to help break up flavor fatigue and wash down my platter of pancakes.

After a grueling 56:30 we both finished our challenge stacks of pancakes and successfully became the 13th and 14th winners of this challenge! This was one hell of a challenge and we can both see why BeardMeatsFood threw in the towel.

An enormous thank you to Kathy for keeping this challenge going despite such a lack of winners over the years! You rock for prepping our tables and cooking up such amazing pancakes! Your amiability and sense of humor kept my overthinking brain at ease. I felt truly in good hands. Your constant encouragement also helped tremendously! I knew I couldn’t let you down on this one and I glad we got some new winners for you .

THE FRIENDLIEST BREAKFAST PLACE EVER! If I lived nearby, I’d be a regular! The owner, Kathy, and my server, Stacy were wonderful. I’ve never had so many laughs at breakfast. I felt like one of the family.

We stayed in Bennington for the weekend and saw Papa Pete’s as we looked for restaurants in the area. Advertised as the”Home of the Giant Pancake” – it totally delivers on that promise!
This is no thin crepe pancake, it is a full 14” round, 1” thick delicious behemoth of a pancake. While we were warned that it’s huge, we just didn’t comprehend how much breakfast it was.
Think of a small pizza – easily feeds 3-4 people and possibly a young family of 5.
We also had other breakfast plates and they were great too – the pancakes( normal sized) being the centerpiece of the meal.
The vibe is home kitchen eclectic and the service is snarky and blunt ( in a fun way).

Nice small, comfy place… booth tables high enough to get my fat belly in! I had two blueberry pancakes, tasted wonderful, started eating before I remembered to take a picture! I’ll be stopping in again, if my old legs will allow it. Can’t get my wheelchair up stairs! Lol. But it was worth it. Very nice people.

What a gem of a breakfast diner in the mountains of southern VT. Service was warm and friendly, food was excellent! The crispy potatoes were wicked good and pizza size pancakes will leave you feeling full. Local syrup comes with the pancakes and if you’re up for a challenge you can try to take down 3 of the giants. The apple and cheese omelette was delicious and such a unique use of local flavors. Hope to be back soon for some great food and hospitality!

This was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in my life (and we ordered just about every breakfast item on the menu). When we walked in the door, the owner managed our expectations immediately by telling us how long our food would take to cook. We placed our orders and then waited.
The waitresses were kind and helpful while taking our orders.
The food was DELICIOUS. Every single food item tasted fresh and homemade – because it is. The bacon, the eggs, the potatoes (both french fries and home fries), the pancakes, the French toast, the hash, the cider, the iced tea. All perfection. 100/10 would recommend this place to anyone in the area!

✨ Breakfast dreams do come true at Papa Pete’s Home of the Giant Pancakes!
This morning we skipped the pancakes (hard to resist, I know!) and went straight for their omelets. One was packed with juicy steak—hearty, savory, and perfectly cooked. The other was a creative twist: cheddar and apple. Sweet meets sharp, and honestly, it was a flavor combo that surprised us in the best way.

Papa Pete’s has that cozy, hometown vibe where comfort food feels like a celebration. If you’re looking for a spot that serves up giant portions with a side of warmth, this is it.

Next time, I’ll have to capture those legendary pancakes too…

We went around 1030 and the place was empty. Service was great and the staff was very friendly. Food was very good. Pancakes were great. I had the Campbell( corned beef hash benidict). Not that it’s a deal breaker but potatoes could use a bit of seasoning. I would recommend stopping in for a bite. And I will probably stop in again
