My wife and I met a friend this afternoon for lunch at Aunt Chilada’s. I was told it is under new ownership by our very friendly host Joe. We sat near one of the fireplaces with a nice (gas) fire going. The last time I was in this restaurant was after a softball game in Cheshire close to 40 years ago. Not much has changed in the building. It was very bright inside with the winter sun streaming inside the dinning area. The upstairs was as I last saw it large and open space with a bar. Down to lunch, we sat near the fireplace downstairs in the bar area, very comfortable. Joe came over and let us know they had Empanadas for a special, that was good enough for all three of us. A few couples came in and were seated and a few came and sat at the bar. Our food arrived, beautiful golden brown crusted shells filled with a great mix of beef and cheese a little spicy sauce served on the side to enhance the great flavors. Very tasty and quite filling. This was a perfect spot to enjoy some good food, service and atmosphere and perfect acoustics so we could talk and enjoy each others company. We finished and sat around shooting the breeze, it was great. Ample seating, parking no issue at all. It was nice to be inside once again.

We stopped at Aunt Chilada’s on our way back from a warehouse pickup in North Haven. The Mountain View from the restaurant is beautiful. Ed was very friendly. He offered to add variety of vegetables to our order of tostadas once he learnt we didn’t eat meat. Our order was: Jarritos- pineapple & guava, Esquites, Tostadas. Two of us shared the corn and the tostadas and we weren’t able to finish all the food. The quantity and quality of food is nice. Overall nice experience. Would love to visit in summers for the outdoor seating.

This is a very unique find, affordable Mexican in a spacious cozy atmosphere. Nestled under the sleeping giant mountain range with lovely views, and friendly staff who are fast, and generous with the chips and salsa ♥️

Service was friendly and attentive. Food took 40-50 minutes to arrives to the table. Sunday afternoon, restaurant not being crowded, was disappointed food ordered took so long to be ready. Did not received everything we ordered. Food was underwhelming. Beverage (alcoholic drinks) were awful.
Will not be returning to this location anytime soon.

I stopped by this establishment after a day in Hamden. Upon entering, I was greeted with a peculiar smell that was a bit off-putting. I sat at the bar since I was alone. The young man behind the bar was nice. I ordered chicken sopes and a hibiscus drink. The complimentary chips and salsa were good, and the salsa was flavorful. The chicken on the sopes lacked flavor and maybe some seasoning. Would I return if I’m back in Hamden? Yes. I would try something different tho.

I used to come here often but haven’t been in a while. I ordered the southwest supreme chicken chimichangas. I think that’s what it was called, with the black beans. It used to be a lighter crisper fried wrap and covered with sauce. It was dry with a side of salsa. I asked for sour cream too. Once I added both the flavor was great. The fried cheese cake was delicious. The raspberry sauce and whip cream take it over the top. But the wrap was the same as the chimichanga. What happened to the light and crispy wraps. Is the oil not hot enough or different or are the wraps different. The flavors were outstanding. The service was excellent.

Very cool atmosphere. Now the server was very but I think it was either he was over his head or the kitchen was not prepared. The food was good needed to be a little spiced up, but we waited way too long for our food.It was almost an hour. They definitely need more staff. Again, this is not a ding on the server himself. He was very nice.
