I love Grass Rootes! A great spot for dinner, lunch or brunch. I always get shrimp here because they cook it perfectly every time! I don’t drink alcohol so being able to get a mocktail while my friends have cocktails makes me feel like I’m part of the group!
The shrimp and grits is good! The andouille sauce is spicey!! I’m glad the waitress recommended to put it on the side!
I love the atmosphere here. Sometimes they have a live musician. The vibes are great!
Staff is friendly! We were laughing because we felt like the servers came to check on us a little too often. They were just very thorough to make sure we were doing ok!
For a restaurant I really like the bathroom needs some TLC. It’s nasty.

We came to Culpeper to celebrate our anniversary, and Grass Rootes absolutely did not disappoint. We started with a glass of wine and the fried oysters, which were divine—perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with a remoulade sauce.
The atmosphere is wonderful: cozy and quaint with a rustic feel and a wood-burning fireplace that really sets the tone. For dinner, we had the pan-seared salmon and the chicken Parmesan, and holy hell—this was one of the best meals we’ve had out in a LONG time. We’re foodies and often prefer to cook at home, but this dinner completely exceeded our expectations.
We ordered dessert to go, and our wonderful server surprised us with a celebratory dessert for our anniversary, which was such a thoughtful touch. Incredible service, amazing food, and a fabulous atmosphere. We will absolutely be returning and highly recommend Grass Rootes to anyone visiting the area.

While on the road as a traveling photographer, I found this establishment. Immediately I fell in Love! The ambiance was original & hometown feeling, can’t say enough about this place. Went out of my way just to go here.

What a great place. I was traveling back to Germany and had a fabulous stop-over. Great atmosphere, well renovated old hardware store, fireplace, super-friendly service and excellent food (I had fried oysters and clam chowder). You are not just serving food and drinks but memories. And tell Kelly she is doing a great job. She is a beautiful person.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We stopped in here on a whim, after reading the specials sign outside, on Wizard Weekend and are SO glad we did! We had an outstanding experience! The food was exceptional. It was clean, fresh and perfectly seasoned & prepared. So flavorful!! The atmosphere is very cool and the vibe in the restaurant is relaxing and joyful. The staff are what made the experience over the top though. We have food allergies and they took them so seriously and made us feel so safe & taken care of! They checked every item and made our safety a top priority. We felt like family. The food truly was phenomenal. The sweetheart salad was chef’s kiss and I’ll be thinking about their house made strawberry vinaigrette forever! We ordered the brussel sprouts and a diner in our party also ordered a steak, which was perfectly prepared. Everything was perfect. We will definitely be back! Thank you so much!!!!!!

We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary at Grass Roots last night, and it was absolutely perfect. With the new ownership, the care and attention to detail truly shine. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere was cozy and romantic—especially sitting near the fireplace on a winter evening.
Every dish was outstanding: the tuna nachos were fresh and flavorful, the mushroom ravioli had an amazing sauce we’re still talking about, the winter salad was crisp and beautifully balanced, and the ribeye was cooked perfectly. We ended the evening with fabulous banana foster, which was the perfect sweet finish to a memorable night.
Thank you, Grass Roots, for helping make our anniversary so special. We’re already looking forward to our next visit. ❤️

Fun and hip vibe. Fantastic fresh food and delicious choices. We had steak and duck with salad and roasted brussel sprouts. Very close to lots of fun and interesting places to explore. There is a lively area in the basement called the Burrow that has darts and karaoke on Friday nights.

I had the best pork-chop I’ve ever eaten in my entire life at this restaurant! The flavors were amazing, and the sauce and seasonings really complimented the pork.
The portion sizes are large and worth the price no matter the dish ordered. My sister had a wonderful Cesar salad and the chicken was tender and the dressing fresh. Others in my group had spaghetti and meatballs, Brussels sprouts, and shrimp, and there were no complaints, only compliments on quality and taste. The service was friendly, quick, and responsive and the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area! Will be returning!
