A very much-needed breakfast place in the San Luis Valley! Scratch buttermilk biscuits everyday, and of course rich extra meaty gravy The spicy breakfast burritos smothered with my awesome green chili ties for bestseller right alongside the country fried steak and eggs platter! Just FYI, my green chili is gluten-free and I carry gluten-free bread and buns I usually have vegetarian chili but I also run out of it quickly Our pancake and waffle mixes are made fresh daily, as is the French toast, which people say is the best they ever had! Daily lunch specials, including the Reuben, chef salad, Hawaiian chicken sandwich with pineapple, BBQ and swiss Icebox cake made with fresh whipped cream and fresh fruit Don’t forget the pies!!

I almost don’t want to write this review simply because I want to be greedy and stingy and keep this amazing place to ourselves so it doesn’t get over populated buuuuuuut the good side of me says I have to because if you haven’t stopped your missing out!!!! We have passed by this little gem probably a million and one times before and today we finally stopped in and thank goodness we did!!! For the first time EVER we actually went to the same restaurant twice in 1 day it was THAT amazing!!!! My husband and I went for breakfast with our youngest kiddo while our other kids were in school and it was so amazing we had to bring the whole gang back for dinner and we were NOT disappointed!!!!! Every single item was off the charts amazing the atmosphere cozy the staff so friendly and bubbly, it really felt like we were sitting down enjoying a meal with friends and family it didn’t feel or taste like we were eating out at all! Prices are reasonable portions are perfect not too small and not oh my lord huge just perfect amounts! Oh and her green chili is the freaking best green chili I have had in the entire valley it is AMAZING everyone else’s is either too hot you can’t taste the food or not hot enough to where it’s like where’s the chili hers is perfect you can still taste all the flavors of the food and still feel the heat!! We have found out Thursday bill day restaurant to come in and take a breather slow back down from the hustle and bustle and just enjoy the moment with good faces conversation and delicious food!!! Oh and did I mention she has a little treasure box for the kiddos after they eat! And majority of her meals can be made into kiddo portions which we love because my kids love the adult meals it’s just normally too big for them with offering the adult meals in kid portions my kids got to pick and have an actual variety of foods! I would have taken pics of my kids food but they just simply ate it too fast! My daughter got the meatloaf (best meatloaf we have ever had mind you) my son the chicken breast, my other son the fish of the day, and my eldest the fried chicken they all got a full rounded dinner like they would at home but what they wanted in the moment and every single kiddo ate everything on their plates and then we got pie to go so our tummies can settle on the drive home and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful night!!! You HAVE to stop in and meet Barb (the owner and mastermind behind it all) and try her amazing foods she has such a big warm heart and is an absolute joy and her food is just way too amazing I can rave more but you just have got to stop in and try it for yourself seriously gooooooo nooooooooooow!!!!

Real food, real folks. So excited for breakfast I forgot to take pics of my entree before I had devoured half of it! Honestly, owner Barb could cook a phone book, and we’d be happy to have it. Luckily, she uses fresh food ingredients and so much love. The woman can cook, my gawd. Barb and front of house whiz, Lisa welcome guests and are so kind, genuine, and gracious. 100% worth the drive.

Sweet old soul. She popped out of the kitchen to get some feedback on the meal and offer us some fresh Pumpkin Pie. I’m not going to tell you guys what her secret ingredient is, but if you drop by I’m sure she will be glad to share it with you as she did share it with our group.
Good diner food made with love 10/10 would stop by again anytime I’m in the area.

Food was really good, but DO NOT order any ice cream. It came out super hard, and the vanilla tasted horrible and the strawberry had no taste. They said it was homemade ice cream. It was a very expensive dinner for the 4 of us, considering we gave our usual 20% tip. Bill was $143. + . We were shocked for the amount and did not see an itemized bill before the tip or we wouldn’t have given 20 %. Service was great, we were the only ones in there at 5 PM on a Saturday evening

I love this place. I can’t decide which was better, the food or the company. Both make for an incredible place. The owner takes time to talk to everyone & she makes you feel like an old friend. The atmosphere is positive & fun and the music is great. I just really love it there. (And when they say your order is huge, believe them. I’ll be finishing mine all through the day.)

We finally made it to Mom and Pop’s . We’ve seen the adds on Facebook and pictures of their yummy food. We were not disappointed, the food was delicious!! It’s totally worth the drive! Friendly staff, even Mom and Pop’s came out to say hello and offered us some free pie since it was the end of their work week. Highly recommend this cozy home cooking restaurant.

We go through La Jara a couple times a month and are really pleased this great little place exists. We stopped in for apple cider and waffles a little over a week ago and we’re still talking about how awesome those waffles were. Thick and lovely but fluffy, not dense. Cozy atmosphere and welcoming staff. Definitely coming by again to try lunch sometime.

I am ashamed to say that Thanksgiving was my first meal here. I should have stopped long ago, but now that I have, I will be going more often! The food and service was spectacular! What a buffet! Turkey and all the trimmings and all the extras! The best Mac n Cheese I have ever had! Great desserts too. Barb and her husband are so friendly and outgoing. It’s like going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. I had 2 friends come over from Chama NM and my friend Kaden and we all had Thanksgiving Dinner together. It was better than being at home. First time I haven’t cooked on a holiday in many years! We will be back!
