Proper 21 K, located at 2033 K Street NW, is a restaurant forward sports bar serving elevated American classics with a modern, crave able twist. Proper 21 K is the fourth location of the Proper team. Like its predecessors, the space maintains the modern aesthetic and New York style of the Manhattan locations, which have best been described as “Tom Ford meets Thomas Edison”. The restaurant provides state-of-the- art audio & visual for sports, corporate functions, nightlife and other events as well as the largest outdoor/garden area in the neighborhood. I was there with my coworkers. We enjoyed the food for our quick lunch away from work. The portions were great, but we waited almost 45 minutes for the appetizers. Other than that the food and service were the appropriate.

Went here on December 13th for a friend’s birthday. I ordered the calamari as a starter and the salmon as my main course. The calamari tasted greasy and no one at the table liked it. The salmon was cooked well but didn’t have enough flavor. The atmosphere was cool, but I would probably only visit for drinks.

Stopped in on a Monday night. There were only a few people sitting at the bar. That didnt stop us from sitting down and enjoying a meal. The venue was VERY esthetically pleasing and had a nice little vibe. I can only imagine it better with a little bit of a crowd. The bartender was our waitress and she was kind, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Our food came out timely and hot and had good flavor. My two girls got the Proper Burger which was cooked to order correctly and I got the Beef Bulgogi bowl which was also good. It was a nice serving of rice and beef.

We stopped by after a basketball game at USB Arena. The atmosphere was great with a nice crowd and sports on the TVs. The service was good and the drinks were fine. The food was horrible. We only tried the French Dip and Chicken Wings. The French Dip had very little meat and bread wasn’t good. However, the chicken wings were the worst I have ever had. First, they were warm on the outside and cold on the inside as if they were pre-cooked and warmed up later. The Buffalo Sauce was so thick were had to scrap it off and even then we only ate a few and left the rest. We woke in the middle of night with upset stomach. If you go, I would stay away from the food.

Proper 21-K Street is the perfect venue for a happy hour or private event! We hosted 50 guests in the back bar area. The food was delicious, there were great drink options for everyone (cocktails, mocktails, N/A beers), and the Proper 21K team was so attentive. Our bartenders, Ilay and April, were fantastic! They handled the influx of drink orders efficiently, monitored food levels to replenish when items ran low, and helped us set up the space so it was well equipped (coat rack, name tag table, drink menus throughout), so the event flowed seamlessly. Can’t wait to host another event at Proper 21K!
